I love my IHS
From the Staff Editor’s Desk
Teachers and schools are well-acquainted with the intricacies, difficulties and
rewards of bringing out the school magazine. But what about the sheer joy of
endless creativity in an electronic magazine? This could be an outlet for even the
most hesitant child to express ideas and get into a very personalized Hall of Fame
– a great way to prepare students to be proactive global citizens.
How does one begin to set the ball rolling for such an endeavor? Who can the
teacher turn to? How does the teacher include students in this enterprise?
Since it is the e-magazine, let’s go the electronic way. All students from K.G to
grade 12 are invited and encouraged to contribute to their magazine ‘eexpressions’. It is simple to do this, just mail your articles, poems, sketches,
quizzes, a book review or even a movie review to [email protected]
along with your name and class. We will appreciate if you mail your passport
size photograph in school uniform along with your write up. You can flaunt your
linguistics credentials by penning your thoughts in Arabic, English, French and
Hindi.
From the very beginning when the first words were uttered, the ability to
communicate has played an important role in our world.
Whether within our own thoughts, spoken or written, words have the power to
transform the world we live in.
Love, laughter, heroism, friendship, and virtually every emotion we feel as human
beings can be inspired by words. Unfortunately, fear, anger, and hatred, can also
be invoked by words.
Language is at its best when used to inspire others to find the best in themselves.
So you have a platform here to emote the power of words – come join me in
creating this tapestry of words woven in a plethora of expressions.

Imagine a spacious house opposite, the Dubai
Museum and now look outside your classroom
window and take in the majestic sight of our school
grounds, think of the Garhoud branch and the yet to
come Silicon Oasis Campus. ‘Rome was not built in a
day’ they say and neither was our prestigious school.
Bharat Vidhyalaya started out in 1961 as a school to 16-18 students, taught by Hemkala Behn (in 1961).
Now it has grown into the well known and respected The Indian High School, home to 9419 students and
864 members of staff. It’s astonishing yet amazing to see how our school has developed from a Hindi
medium school conducting sports day with events like ‘Kabaddi’, celebrating Republic Day in a place called
Jumeirah Cinema which does not even exist anymore to the school as we know and love today. Our school
has been constantly developing and reinventing itself.
In 1971, Bharat Vidhyalaya shifted its base to the current Zabeel campus donated by H.H. Sheikh Rashid Bin
Saeed Al Makhtoum and started out as a CBSE affiliated English medium school called The Indian High
School. In 1977, under the leadership of the then Principal, Dr. Moti Prakash and Headmaster, Mr. J.C. Shah,
our school had around 5000 students with our school campus consisting of the Gandhi and Nehru Blocks
and also an old building and few cabins in place of the Rashid Block. Can you imagine our school with only
3-4 buses , a sand pit in place of the beautiful lawn, ice-creams and soft drinks being served in the canteen?
No luxuries of the famous Sheikh Rashid Auditorium and oh! no PA system, just the sound of the plain old
classic bell.
In August 1988, the Branch school in Garhoud was inaugurated. Since 1995, under the guidance of Mr.
Ashok Kumar our school has never looked back and has been developing tremendously. We have been
blessed to have such great visionaries who have helped us to greater heights of glory. The infrastructural
facilities, extra-curricular activities, clubs, the profile of dignitaries who have visited our school all stand
testimony to our school’s achievement.
But school has never been about the buildings and walls that adorn it, it is about its students, teachers, staff
and management. A member of the staff who has been a student in this school feels that our school was
the best then and is the best even now! The management feels proud to have been able to guide our school
to its 50th glory. Teachers take pride in the fact that they have imparted knowledge and molded lives of
students for 50 glorious years. Students simply revel in the pride and take in the joys of being part of the
50th Golden Jubilee Celebrations of their second home where they have learned the ways of life.
Feel proud to be part of such an illustrious institutions...
to be part of a Legacy...

IF SCHOOL WERE
BASEB
MORE LIKE
LL
If school were more like baseball,
We’d only have to play.
We’d hand out in the sunshine,
And run around all day.
We wouldn’t have to study,
We’d practice and we’d train.
And the best of all, they’d cancel,
Whenever there was rain.

World of Books
Books are a treasure
Which give me pleasure
With joy and happiness
Reading with greatness
Books give me knowledge
This improves my language
Gives me good vocabulary
And writing skills too!
I love reading books
It is my hobby too
Books are my friends
For which I care and share
I refer to my dictionary
For difficult words and
phrases
I never tear pages
From my precious books
I’m happy to be a bookworm
So I read and read and read.

ROBOT
My robot does my homework.
He helps me every night.
The trouble is he doesn’t get
Too many answers right.
He’d probably do better
At homework but, you see,
I built him, so he only knows
The things he learned from me.

GROW MORE
TREES
Let us not cut down trees.
If there are no trees in the
forests birds and animals
will have no home. There
will be no trees to give
them shade, no flowers
and no fruits. There will be
no rain. There will be no
water to drink and no
food to eat. There will be
no oxygen to breathe in.
we cannot imagine such
a life.
So let us grow more trees.

If Life Were Like A Computer:
You could add/remove someone in your life using the control panel.
You could put your kids in the recycle bin and restore them when you feel
like it!
You could improve your appearance by adjusting the display settings.
You could turn off the speakers when life gets too noisy.
You could click on “find” (Ctrl, F) to recover your lost remote control and
car keys.
To get your daily exercise, just click on "run"!
If you mess up your life, you could always press "Ctrl, Alt, and Delete"
and start all over!

When you feel sad and betrayed
Who can you count on every single day?
When you feel lost and alone
Who will be there for you in every way?
When you've made mistakes and bad decisions
Who can you count on to tell you you're wrong?
When you feel you can't go on
Who will be there with a feel-better song?
Look into your heart and you will find
That person you can trust is not far away.
Look deep into yourself, don't give up,
For if you do, it's yourself you'll betray.
When you're looking for answers
To all your questions and dreams,
There is one person you can count on,
It's impossible, I know, it seems.
But take a few moments to look deeper inside.
Look into your heart and there you will see.
You'll be surprised when you find out
That you've been looking at ME

Cant think of a subject because there were so many memories
attached with each snap.
Well, I do remember the experiment name, it was: Chemical
reactions in a baggie....
Anaab and I were performing this experiment while Shreya was
doing the checklists part......
It was an amazing experience there....and for me....I guess it was
not just the educational part where I got to learn from......
I got to learn a lot from our counselor,
Mr. Jeff Livingston.....
Also, the way all the other staff
members treated us.......
They all were so polite and so very
calm.....We actually felt like learning
all these things from them.....
Also, I loved the way our teachers
were so involved with the students
and actually took care of each and
every need of ours!!!

Rocket Making in Space
Camp
Hardeep Singh
Team Von Braun
Our first activity in space camp
was rocket making. The challenge
was to make a rocket out of the
materials given by them and
launching it with the egg in the
payload section. Our Priority was
to ensure that the egg was safe
after the launch and descent of
the rocket. We were given a
presentation by our counsellor to
help us in making our own
functional rocket. We made a
rocket with limited credits for
buying the materials and it was
launched it successfully .The end
result was disappointing. The
rocket flew so high that the first
two stages i.e. payload section
along with the recovery system
was lost into the green trees so we
never knew whether the egg
survived
or
not.
It
was
disheartening.
Nevertheless,
Rocket making was the most
exciting and fun activity for me at
Space camp.
“Awesome “ is the only word I
can think of when I start to
describe the “ Space Camp“.
The space camp enhanced in each
of our group members team spirit
, technical skills and Space
Knowledge. It actually helped us
correlate knowledge to real life
situation. It brought out the leader
in me and gave a boost to my
confidence.
Teachers became our good mates
- our approachable mentors who
guided us.
All in all it has made me respect
my School.- IHS for giving Students
this Remarkable Opportunity , “ A
One in One’s Life “ .

Sanskrit Literature
India has 22 officially recognized
languages, and a huge variety of
literature has been produced in
these languages over the years.
Hindu literary traditions dominate
a large part of Indian culture. Apart
from the Vedas, which are a
sacred form of knowledge, there
are other works such as the Hindu
epics Ramayana and Mahabharata,
treatises such as Vaastu Shastra
in architecture and town planning,
and Arthashastra in political
science. The most famous works
in Sanskrit are the Hindu holy
texts like the Vedas, Upanishads,
and Manusmriti.

DREAMS AND FANTASIES
It is said that what a person dreams about (not daydreams, mind!) is just a
reflection of his deepest fears or desires. I, however, don’t quite believe that. My
dreams neither point out my fears nor do they indicate any sort of desire. But if
you consider the dreams when I end up tearing and burning my Science books (I
am not fond of Science, see; I would do much better in college without it), or the
ones where I soar above the highest peaks of mountains and glide in the deepest
oceans, I suppose you could say that my innermost desires and fears are, both,
fulfilled in these mysterious visions.
But my dreams are all of a similar pattern and they don’t really do a good job of
portraying my fear or desire. What sort of fear or desire do you propose is
embedded in my floating on green water, suddenly realising that my Economics
teacher is observing me? If you think it’s the part of the teacher that would freak
me out, I would stop you right there because she is a very sweet woman and by
far, the only teacher who made the right judgment of me as a mad woman.
Another thing that I am not in full agreement with is the stipulated duration of
each dream. So, what is the deal about dreams lasting for just two seconds?
Upon my soul, I swear I have had a very, very creepy dream involving a wedding,
the murder of a dog and chopping off of my fingers; all events slowly transpiring
over a few days! I would never believe that that dream lasted for just two
seconds.
Yet there is something about dreams- probably that mysterious, invisible veil
that separates it from the rest of the world- that gives me the greatest pleasures.
It gives me refuge in a world that is entirely my own, where I can find my own
way. I can go against myself and still live those stipulated two seconds with great
passion. I can soar above the highest peaks of mountains and glide in the
deepest oceans.
Nothing can make me reconsider my actions or pause and wait for the right
moment.

•One thousand contains the letter A, but none of the words from one to nine
hundred ninety-nine has an A.
•Did you know that books can breathe? People visiting the British Museum
complained of getting headaches. This was because books seem to absorb or
"breathe" in air and "breathe" out smells of their own. There were so many old
books in the Museum that there was no fresh air left which meant people got
headaches from breathing in bad air!!

I CALL THE
I call thee Music
To bring a smile to my face
To put a hop in my step
To surround people in emotion
When I sing a song
Emotions soar high
I can connect with myself through you
I can feel like myself again
You engulf me in joy
So deep I could drown
But you also make me cry
And forget all but me
You remind me of my love
My life, My friends, My laughter
And all I associate with then
Your melody completes my life.
When I crank up the volume
Everything else is just background noise
So take me to land of bliss!
I call thee music..
