• If it is impossible to swim to China, can you
do it or not?
The way we knew
exactly what was
meant was by
adding a prefix.
A prefix is a word
part added to the
beginning of a
base word.
Please keep in mind…the base word is a word by itself. Example pre-read. Read is a word
by itself without the prefix “pre”. Pre + read=pre-read

• Why is it important to know prefixes?

Just because a word begins with im, re, or
another prefix, doesn’t mean it is a prefix.
• Eating a good breakfast is important.
• The mailman received the mail.
If there is no base word, then it’s not a prefix.
