Scenario

You aspire to be a sports coach at a professional club and must explore how coaches have used various roles, responsibilities, skills and techniques successfully. By gaining this key information you are able to lead a presentation to other aspiring coaches on the key aspects of effective coaching.

Task 1 – P1

Research

the roles performed by a successful coach (innovator, friend, manager, trainer, role-model, educator etc.) • Create an

observation checklist

focussed on these roles and observe a coach/teacher.

Task 2 – P1/M1

• In groups

discuss impact

and make notes on the of these roles in lesson/session observed. •

Research

the

responsibilities

of an

effective

coach and relate these to practical scenarios.

Task 3 – P1

• Create a

code of conduct

for a coach (legal obligations, child insurance, child protection, professional conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities, knowledge of the coaching environment.)

Research

skills

required to be a successful coach (communication, organisation, analysing, problem solving, evaluating, time management etc) • Create an
