• Michelangelo was a prolific artist, with a celebrated Italian temper. It is said that he received a broken nose during his apprenticeship, resulting from an argument with his mentor.
• Italy was flourishing under the leadership of Lorenzo Medici, who began a rebirth of the arts called the Renaissance. Lorenzo was Michelangelo’s patron and allowed him to create. Another supporter of Michelangelo was Pope Julius II who commissioned Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel and also design his tomb.
