Measurable
• To determine whether your goal is
measurable ask:
– How much (growth, grades, Spanish)?
– How many (ACTFL levels, students)?
– How will I know when it is accomplished?
Attainable
• What is your plan?
• How will you achieve this goal?
• Establish a time frame
Realistic
• Your goal must represent an object toward
which you are willing and able to work on.
– Do you truly believe it can be accomplished?
– Have I accomplished similar goals in the
past?
– What would have to happen in order to
achieve the goal?

Examples of SMART goals
• I will speak only Spanish 100% of the time once I walk in
the door everyday.
• I will complete 90% of the homework on time each week.
• I will be a positive, kind, accountable, on task member of
the classroom community
• I will strive to reach Novice High by the end of the year.
• I will participate to the best of my ability 100% of the time
by staying in Spanish and asking others to as well.
• I will pass Spanish 2a with a C or higher at the end of the
third trimester.
• I will write down and learn a new Spanish vocabulary
word from class each day.
