“ELEMENTOS A COMPRESIÓN EN UN MAR DE TENSIÓN”
Si en un sistema de compresión y tracción (Reticulados) los elementos que
trabajan a tracción se cambian por materiales flexibles como cables o tensores
(resistentes a tracción) se puede decir que es un Tensegrity.
Si un cable portante se rigidiza con otro cable paralelo pero invertido a este, y
entre ellos se ubican elementos a compresión para rigidizarlos, esto se puede
considerar como Tensegrity

Tensegrity
Abierto: requiere de elementos para su estabilización y rigidez, por ejemplo
anillos a compresión o tensores externos.
Cerrado: por si solos forman un sistema autónomo que no requiere de otros
elementos para su rigidez o estabilización

Los elementos a compresión
pueden ser tubos o perfiles de
acero, madera, elementos que
pesen poco en comparación con su
resistencia ante este esfuerzo. Los
elementos comprimidos no siempre
son rectos.
Los materiales propios para la
tracción son los cables de acero o
se puede pensar en fibras como la
Aramida (Kevlar ®), en casos no
estructurales se usarán alambres,
cuerdas, etc.
Los usos más comunes son
cubiertas, también se han puesto
en práctica en esculturas, en
Sídney (Australia) se encuentra
construido un puente.
