Appositives
An appositive phrase is a group of words (not a
complete sentence) that is often referring to the subject
of the sentence. An appositive phrase restates the
subject; it gives more precise information about the
noun (subject) it follows.
Examples:
Jack, the bold thief, absconded with the giant's bag of
gold.
Jack, the stealthy thief creeping through the doorway,
absconded with the giant's bag of gold.
