The Project
Exploring the impact of introducing the ‘driverless’ car
in India.
Essential Question:
How will the introduction of the driverless car
impact day-to-day life in India?
The ‘driverless’car
 The Google Driverless Car is a project
by Google
 led by Google engineer Sebastian Thrum.
Technology
– The system combines information gathered
from Google Street View with artificial
intelligence software and input from video
cameras inside the car
– LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) sensor
on top of the vehicle
– radar sensors on the front of the vehicle
– a position sensor attached to one of the
rear wheels that helps locate the car's
position on the map
Subject Areas
 Physics
 English language
 Geography
Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
– Develop an understanding of the physics and
geography elements.
– Develop a deeper understanding of the road and
traffic culture in India.
– Demonstrate an understanding of language
elements
– Develop the skills of scientific writing.
Project Overview

•
Students will explore how the idea of a DC (driverless car)
evolved over the years.
They will learn physics of the driverless car- with particular
focus on the navigation system of the DC
They will examine the importance of the DC in the context of
India today. (Interview decision-makers )
Students will present their understanding in written form.
They will write an article on their understanding of the DC and
the impact it will have on the day-to-day life in India.
All the articles would be assessed for their quality against a
rubric.
A few articles would be offered for publishing in the local
newspaper
Final Product
An article on the DC which covers the physics
element and the impact on day-to-day life in
India.
Burning Questions
• Will the ‘glamour’ of the DC
overshadow the learning of the
significant content of Physics?
