Course title: Integrated Skills 1 Topic: How to choose a career?

Fried-Booth, Oxford, 1986 Aim: To extend students communicative competence by developing their ability to:  expand the range of topics they can discuss and comprehend in English  carry out communicative tasks that require an exchange of information  develop their control of grammar and conversational language through activities Time: 80 minutes

ACTIVITY OBJECTIVE PROCEDURE Warm-up Task 1

Pre activity to introduce the theme of personality traits to build interest in the topic of the lesson and activate Ss’ background knowledge to practice the use of adjectives, gerunds, and infinitives to describe personalities to stimulate critical thinking

Task 2

to expand vocabulary and practice the pronunciation of the new words activity to find out about each Chain Reaction traits and practice using expressions for T asks students what the words

describe when talking about personality traits. Ss give other examples of words describing personality traits. T writes the answers on the board and asks Ss to raise their hands if any of these words describe them. 1. T explains that Ss are going to take a personality quiz. (handout 1) Ss read the ten statements in the quiz silently while T circulates, answering vocabulary or comprehension questions. T writes the vocabulary items that Ss asked about on the board. 2. Ss work alone to complete the quiz, adding two more items of their own 3. Ss compare their quiz results with a partner. 4. T distributes cards with adjectives. Ss are required to use the statements in the quiz and their own examples to explain the meaning of the given adjectives. (handout 2) 5. T checks that Ss know the meanings of the adjectives and pronounces the words that caused Ss difficulty. 6. T explains the use of gerunds and infinitives after selected verbs (optional) 1. T conducts a chain drill around the class. One S or T starts by saying, for example “I’m reserved. It takes me a long time to feel comfortable talking to someone about my thoughts or feelings”, and then quickly says another S’s name. 3-5 min 20 min 7-10 min

When you apply for a job, you write a letter of application which goes together with CVs.

Letters of application represent who you are to a potential employer.

The application letter is your first communication with the person that can give you your dream job.
