What is Lebit?
Invented by Shell in the 60s Lebit stands for Leicht Bitumen It is a completely seamless insulation for heat conducting pipes
Lebit composition
Comprises 3 natural raw materials:
Cork
Constantly growing natural product (cork oak)
Cellulose
Raw material made from wood fibres
Bitumen
Natural product that has been in use for the past 5000 years and is found in nature Processed without any chemical additives
Functioning and principle of Lebit
Lebit is thermo-elastic that is a liquid when cast and hard and elastic when cooled.
When used in heating pipes, the product creates a flexible section where it is applied, while the hard sections remain in place just a few centimetres further.
This hard and flexible combination can be repeated indefinitely in the pipes. The properties of Lebit never change.
Heated pipes can contract or expand without any pressure as the pipe 'swims' in local fluid Lebit.
Advantages of Lebit
Seamless insulation (no cold bridging) Resistant against groundwater Completely water impermeable and thus resistant to corrosion High heat insulation Electric isolation Flexible and slidable at the bearing point Internally flexible; stable external shape Can be processed during renovations under working conditions No sleeve connections, no support points (cold bridging) Also suitable for temperatures up to 200°C 100% recyclable Lebit is made from completely natural materials
Renovation technology = Lebit
Future-oriented, environmentally friendly, affordable renovation technology
Processing properties of Lebit
Lebit combines the various properties of the raw materials to create a unique product
The result is a homogenous, thermoplastic mass that can be poured directly from the thermo-mixer into prepared lost shells due to its viscosity
After a few hours, the trench can be filled again with the original soil
The renovation is then complete. The heating pipes can be used throughout the renovation process
