BB Trap
WB Part
WB Kick Cutback
Three Pass (three verticals) (previously called
FADE PASS)
• Four Pass (four verticals)
BB Trap
• Trap play to the flow side of power.
• Run Trap when the linebackers are flowing hard
to power/power sweep. ILB/OLB on flow side are
over running the power/power sweep.
• Two out of three of these must take place in
order to run trap effectively.
1)
2)
3)
Aggressive defensive line breaching the LOS
Linebacker flows hard overplaying to the perimeter (+1 to
perimeter post-snap)
4 on the perimeter (often from fast flowing ILB)
TKO Slip Method

If a defender is over or inside of the PST and is athletically and biologically superior to the blocker outside
of him and fast enough that he is getting across and penetrating our LOS, then let him go and let the KICK
OUT BLOCKER take him out; then the pullers and ball carrier may run inside of him .
The PST and PSTE will step up and over the defender instead of taking a LOAD step down using an evasive
release (get skinny let the defender slip by resume LEG).
They simply take their load and explode step going forward and then redirect down on their go step. They
will LOAD and EXPLODE vertically as they get skinny and then turn inside and get to their landmark. We
basically bypass the targeted defender and re-seal the gap as he goes by, then we get to our respective
landmarks. The runner must always stay tight to the wall, along with any second puller who is pulling
vertical to seal. As long as they do this it doesn’t matter who the kick out blocker blocks (FIRST DEFENDER
TO CROSS HIS FACE).
This trap (slip) concept can be used with SEAL, KICK, GRUNT, and TANK. Obviously the SEAL concept can be
a little more difficult due to the location of the kick out blocker (BB). In SEAL scheme we will typically only
attempt to “trap” a defender over or outside of the PST but in the KICK, GRUNT, and TANK schemes we can
“trap” a defender that is over or outside shade of the PSG because the PULL GUARD is farther away from
the targeted defender and has an easier path/distance to kick out with.
The benefit of using this trapping concept is that even when you face a really tough interior defender you
still have the ability to beat him by simply letting him get by the wall, then closing the wall off, and kicking
him out while you run inside of him. The combination of down blocks, cut offs, wedge, and kick out blocks
is often more than enough to slow down even the most aggressive defender once he realizes we will use
his aggressiveness against him.

Basic Components of the Trap Blocking
Scheme (PART CONCEPT)

Inside Wall
Outside Wall
Kick out first defender to breach the LOS
Pull and seal vertical up the wall
Backside Cut Off
XX action behind the trap action to force
reaction to the power/power sweep and the
counter/reverse on the backside
Trap Scheme
• Wall Inside: C, G (C, G, T in OVER)
• Wall Outside: T, TE, BB, QB, BSG (add BST in
OVER)
• WB blocks first backer inside with WHAM
block
• BST: pull vertically and block first defender to
cross your face
• BSTE: cut off block
Tight Rip 32 Trap Right
Tight Over Rip 32 Trap Right
WB Part
• Used when the defense is sitting four on the
perimeter triangle and giving up the B gap (space
between the interior and the edge).
• With four on the perimeter triangle they often
collapse two defenders inside hoping to
overwhelm the tunnel and deny the power play.
• PART allows us to split the defense by isolating
the outside defenders and attack the POA with
our pullers.
Part Scheme
• Wall Inside: C, G (C, G, T in OVER)
• Wall Outside: T, TE, BB, QB, BSG (add BST in
OVER)
• WB blocks first backer inside with WHAM
block
• BST: pull vertically and block first defender to
cross your face
• BSTE: cut off block
Tight Rip 24 Part Right
Tight Over Rip 24 Part Right
WB Cutback
• WB Cutback is used when the defense is
keying flow and protecting the perimeter from
the reverse.
• The XX action holds the perimeter triangle in
place to enhance the KICK scheme.
• The WB will motion, secure the snap, and go
vertical aiming at the near hip of the center
and going vertical to daylight.
Tight Rip 25 Kick
“Cutback”
The TB will step with
near foot to counter WB
and fake hand off then
cut back play side. This
allows the pullers to get
into the hole and further
entices the play side
perimeter triangle to
play outside on the
faking reverse.
Tight Rip Three Pass Right
• Three verticals
• Seam and fade with swing route on the same side.
• Creates a LOW-HIGH read on the outside reading the
CB in the pipe.
• If Cover 2 we can use a OUTSIDE-INSIDE read on the
SEAM and FADE.
• If backside corner is ignoring the BSTE we can throw to
the backside fade using a tag.
• You can use WALL, JOKER, or DUECE pass protection.
Tight Rip Three Pass Right (old Fade Pass)
Wall/Deuce/Stay pass protection
QB Drop: Quick Step; set towards
swing/fade LOW-HIGH.
If MOFO audible: Quick step set towards
fade/seam OUTSIDE-IN
If BAMBAM audible: Quick step set
towards backside fade.
Switch Tag: #1 and #2 switch assignments.
PSTE will release outside and run FADE and
PSWB will release under and inside of PSTE
and run SEAM.
In Red Zone situations the fades aim for the
back corner pylon. Seam aims for the near
side of the goal post.
Tight Rip Four Pass Right
• Four verticals
• Seam and fade to both sides QB picks the side
he wants (coach can .
• We use a OUTSIDE-INSIDE read on the SEAM
and FADE.
• Check for defender who is a pass first
defender playing run (CB) first on both sides.
• You can use WALL, JOKER, or DUECE pass
protection.
Tight Rip Four Pass Right
Wall/Deuce pass protection
QB Drop: Quick Step; set towards play side
FADE/SEAM; read OUTSIDE-IN
If BAMBAM audible: Quick step set towards
backside fade/seam; read OUTSIDE-IN
Switch Tag: #1 and #2 switch assignments.
PSTE will release outside and run FADE and
PSWB will release under and inside of PSTE
and run SEAM.
In Red Zone situations the fades aim for the
back corner pylon. Seam aims for the near
side of the goal post.
