the Cold War
The Soviet Nuclear Weapon
Site is located in Zemaitija National
Park.
It was built under the Soviet
regime in great secrecy in 1960.
The nuclear missiles were
targeted at the largest European
cities.
Now this old Soviet launch site
opens its grim corridors and
tunnels for guided tours.

MEMEL CITY
Waterfront project MEMEL CITY is
located on the Dane River.
The territory of the former ship
repair yard will be reconstructed to
offer outstanding business and
residential facilities, and a large
variety of entertainment ventures.
Developing
Infrastructure
The Cruise Vessel
Terminal is in the heart
of the city.
The Cruise Vessel Terminal covers
an area of 1.2 ha and is located
about 100 m from the city centre.
Vessels with the length of 315 m
and the draught of 8.5 m are able
to moor at the terminal.
Reducing
Port Charges
Striving to further develop cruise
shipping in the port, the regulations
on Klaipeda Port Dues were revised
and came into force in 2009.
According to these amendments,
port dues for cruise vessels larger
than 50,000 GT (Gross Tonnage)
are calculated on the rate of
50,000 GT, and a 20 % discount
on port dues are granted from the
second call of each year.
Improving
Services
A new Passenger and Cargo
Terminal is under construction
in the central part of the city. It
will be completed in 2012.
The new terminal will expand to
accommodate all cruise vessels
calling at the port and will
guarantee the highest quality of
services for passengers.
