DEFINITIONS OF ADOLESCENT AND YOUTH
United Nation Fund for Population Activities
Adolescent - Includes persons aged 10-19 years.
Youth Includes persons aged 15-24 years.
Young People - Together adolescents and youths are referred
to as 'young people' encompassing the ages
10-24 years.
In India National Youth Policy 2003 states that :The youth in the country in the age group of 13 to 35 years.
In this presentation the UNFPA definition of adolescent and youth
has been considered.
There is no universally accepted definition of either adolescent or youth.

populous countries i.e. China, United States of America, Indonesia, Brazil,
Russian Federation and Japan.

proportion of youth population has increased from 18.3% in 1991 to 19.2%
in 2011.

 Madhya Pradesh Adolescent & Youth population share to total India has
increased from 6.0% (2001) to 6.3% (2011) and 5.7% (2001) to 6.1% (2011)
respectively but the state ranking is sixth in both categories & censuses.
