HIDDEN RIDGE VINEYARD

Located on one of the steepest vineyard sites in all of California, Hidden Ridge Vineyard stands alone. Elevations range from 900 to 1,700 feet and as steep as 55% slope.

2

Spectacular and Extreme

“It should be no surprise that truly distinctive wine comes from this ground, and it is true, year after year, to its origin.” Winemaker Timothy Milos

3

Determination, Dedication and Daring

Entrepreneurs, Oklahoma natives, and husband and wife team, Casidy Ward and Lynn Hofacket purchased an abandoned private hunting club on a remote, Mayacamas mountain property in 1990. Over the course of six years, working alone for the most part, they transformed the untamed wilderness area into the magnificently terraced vineyard that is today Hidden Ridge.

The ultimate “sweat equity project” and a truly amazing accomplishment considering the extreme mountain terrain.

Hidden Ridge Vineyard Overview

Located in the Mayacamas Range between Napa & Sonoma Counties.

So remote the area was referred to as the “Impassable Mountain” on 19 th century surveyor maps.

Terrain offers an abundance of micro-climates.

54 acres of Cabernet clones 337, 4, 7, 169 and one acre of Petit Verdot; divided into 21 blocks.

Uplifted & faulted over time. The vineyard has round river rocks found on the tops of ridges.

Vineyard soils are Sonoma volcanic shale (volcanic basalt) and sandy clay loam.

Planted with inside & outside rows of 5% grade terraces that follow the natural shape of the mountain for optimum sun orientation.

VSP trellis system, modified to allow late afternoon shade.

28 Degree (55%) Slopes 900’ to 1,700’ Elevations

Hands On

Because of hillside ordinances this vineyard could not be developed today.

It is truly the last of its kind

.

Hofacket and Ward are dedicated to keeping production small and exclusively estate grown to secure for a long time to come the future of their unique and exceptional vineyard.

A Winemaker’s Delight

“In 1999, I was introduced to a vineyard that quite literally shifted the paradigm for me. A vineyard so steep, so well developed, so interesting in its planning scheme and with so much vision behind it that I could not help but be blown away …It’s really that amazing.” Marco DiGiulio, former consulting winemaker “…the challenge and the opportunity of this unique property is a winemaker's delight .” Winemaker, Tim Milos
