WHAT IS PRANAYAMA ?
Split the word pranayama=Prana+ayama
Again, Prana=Devine cosmic energy
(present in the form of breathing in our body)
Ayama=Regulating or controlling
So is very simple, Pranayama means Regulating
or controlling the breathing
HOW ARE WE BREATHING ?
WE BREATH IN FOUR STAGES
1.Inhaling (Purak)
2.Holding the breadth inside(Kumbhak)
3.Exhaling (Rechak)
4.Holding the breadth out side (Shunyak or Bahya
kumbhak)
For the regular practice of the pranayama only we do
inhaling and exhaling, for specific & chronic problems
only the four stage breathing is required. So far the 6
pranayamas explained in next slides you do only two
stage breathing. (Inhaling & exhaling)
There are many types of
pranayamas but for our regular
practice 6 pranayamas are
sufficient.
By doing these 6 pranayamas for
20 minutes regularly,
we can maintain a good health
LOCATION FOR DOING PRANAYAMA
One of the best PLACE for doing
pranayama is sea shore,
next is bank of reservoir or big lake,
next is river bank,
next is open ground,
next is open terraces of homes,
next is balconies,
last is inside the room.CHOOSE AS
PER YOUR CONVINIENT
SITTING POSTURES POSTURES
Pranayama can be practiced by sitting
in any one of the following postures
1.Ardhapadmasana
2.Sukhasana
3.Vajrasana
If it is not possible to sit in the above
mentioned postures then you can sit in
the chair or sofa also.
MUDRA
This is nothing but the position of the
hand fingers.
Mudra generally recommended while
doing pranayama is
Jnana mudra. This mudra is performed
by touching the tips of the thumb &
forefinger and keeping the other 3
fingers straight.
1.BASTRIKA PRANAYAMA
( 3 Minutes)
Slowly Inhaling and exhaling for 3
minutes. Body gets charged and
engergised,All the respiratory
related problems gets cured and all
organs related to respiration gets
strengthened.
2.KAPALA BHATI PRANAYAMA
( 5 - 15 Minutes)
Contineously keep on forceful
exhaling once in every second.
Practiced for 5-15 minutes depends
on severity of problem.
This is the Rambana for all the
problems
3.ANULOM-VILOM PRANAYAMA
( 5 - 15 Minutes)
Close the right nostril inhale from left nostril
now close the left nostril and exhale from
right nostril. Inhale from right nostril close it
and exhale from left nostril. This is one
cycle continue with the same.
This is to be practiced for 5-15 minutes.
This heals the Asthma & BP makes the
body and mind balanced, cool and calm.
4.BAHYA PRANAYAMA
( 2 Minutes )
Inhale slowly exhale slowly after total exhaling do once
kapalabhati
(Forceful exhalation)
Simultaneously Pull the anus portion inside
(Mool bandha)
Pull the stomach
(Udyana bandha)
Bend the head touch the chin to chest
(Jalandar bandha) In this posture hold the
breadth for 4-5 seconds.
This pranayama solves the problems related excretory
and reproductive organs. It is the boon for the ladies to
solve their uterus related problems.
5.BRAMARI PRANAYAMA
( 5 TO 11 TIMES )
Close your both ears using thumb, close the eyes
and keep small, ring & middle fingers on the eyes
(Don’t press the eyes gently keep it)
Keep the fore finer on the forehead. Now in this
posture slowly inhale and exhale by making the
humming sound.This cools every cell of the
body.Very good to reduce the body temperature
during fever and get sound sleep.
6.UDGEET PRANAYAMA
( 5 – 11 times )
Keep the hands in jyana mudra
slowly inhale and by chanting the
omkar exhale.
This pranayama also makes the
body cool and brings the total
calmness to the mind.
TIMINGS OF PRANAYAM
Doing pranayama between 3 to 5 am
gives the wonderful results within 3
days you will experience the effect of
pranayama if you do it during this time.
Next suitable time is Evening 5 to 6 pm.
Give a gap of atleast 4 hours after
eating the food.Don’t do pranayama
immidiately after food but you can sit in
Vajrasana immidaitely after taking food.
Children from the age 6 to and
persons of any age can practice
pranayama.
Pregnant ladies,heart
patients,Persons undergone any
major surgery for the last 1 years
are prohibited to do Kapalabhati
& Bahaya prnayama.
Rest all can do it.
