Year 6 Transition – Moving on…
… Stratford School
To all Year 6 pupils,
It is now your turn to make the big move. You’re
probably feeling excited, terrified or eager.
However you feel you won’t be alone, and there
will be lots of people in and out of school to
support you.
Before the big move you will be able to visit
Stratford School and meet some of your teachers
and the key people involved with your transition.
Teachers from the school will come and visit you
in primary school and you will be given a booklet
with all the information you will need.
Hopefully you will find any information you need or
are worried about here. If you don’t there will be
opportunities for you to ask questions when you
meet with members of staff from the school.
Important dates and
information…
Visits to Primary School
Some of you may have been visited already by some year 10 PE
students. All of you will be visited by a small amount of
teachers from Stratford School between June and July.
During this visit some teachers will be talking to you about the
school and expectations, while the others will be talking
with your class teacher, to find out what you are like!
Induction Day
On the 23rd of June you will be invited to Stratford School for
an Induction day. On this day you will take part in activities
that you will be doing when you join in September. It is also
a chance for you to meet your new teaching group, make
new friends and meet some of your new teachers.
Interviews
In the next few weeks you will be invited into Stratford
School with your parents for a formal interview. In this
interview you will meet with one of the heads of house who
will talk you through what is expected of you while you are
here. It is also an opportunity for you and your parents to
ask any questions that you are unsure of.

Frequently asked Questions
Will I get lost?
Hopefully no. In your transition booklet you will have a map of the school.
Each classroom on the map will be labelled with the door number. It
takes a little while to get used to moving around the school, but
pupils and staff will help if you do find that you are unsure where
you are going?
Will I get lots of homework?
Lots of pupils worry that when they start school they will be
overwhelmed by homework. One of the first things you will do in your
lessons is fill out your homework timetable. You should get one piece
of homework for each subject per week.
Are the teachers stricter?
Stratford School expects pupils to behave well at all times and follow
the behaviour agreement. This includes listening to the teacher,
working hard, completing class and homework to the best of your
ability and do your best in all school activities.
Will I be bullied?
Bullying at Stratford School is taken very seriously and all members of
staff have a system to follow to prevent it from happening. All new
students are worried about bullying, but in reality it very rarely
happens. The most important thing you should do if you think you
are being bullied is tell someone. Don’ try and deal with it on your
own.
Will I be able to stay with my friends?
We try our best at school to try and group you with at least one friend.
However we have to use some of the information that your school
supplies us about who you work well with, so we can not promise this
will happen. If you are really unhappy the best person to speak to is
Miss P or your head of house.
Frequently asked Questions
Is it easy to make friends?
Another one of your questions that cropped up time and time again.
The simple answer is YES! You'll be amazed at how quickly you get
to know your fellow classmates.
What is vertical tutoring?
At Stratford School you have your registration time with a mixture of
year groups. There are many reasons why this has been done. It
decreases bullying and it allows your tutor more time to work with
specific year groups, including you. It is still very new to Stratford
School, but so far it has been very successful.
What if I get stuck doing work?
Your Teacher and Tutor are always there to help and will always try
to help. If you are stuck with something in your homework, go and
find the Teacher after school and ask them to explain it again. Your
fellow students are also on hand so don't forget to ask them too.
Do we have pegs and lockers to keep our belongings in?
Unfortunately, no. You will need to be prepared and carry with you
what you need for that specific day. A good strong, comfortable
large bag is essential. When you have P.E. lessons all of your
belongings are locked safely away in the changing rooms.
You will have the opportunity to have a locker in year 7, however
these are not supplied until the end of the last term and it works on
a first come first served basis.
Can I bring valuables into school?
As a school we advise you not to bring your valuables to school as we can
not take responsibility for their loss.
