3. OCLC control number expansion

4. CIP record upgrades in WorldCat
Member libraries can upgrade CIP records even when they are PCC records (042 = pcc) Must have full level (or higher) OCLC cataloging authorizations Cannot change the encoding level; it can be changed only by a CIP upgrade partner or by National Level Enhance authorizations http://www.oclc.org/services/metadata/quality/cip.en.html
5. WorldCat and accompanying material

Background • Not a global program • • Approximately one-third of member libraries participated in 2012 In 2006/2007, OCLC moved from transaction-based pricing to a subscription pricing model • Types of credits (with 2012 percentages): original cataloging (46%), record enhancement and holdings deletion (33%), lending (15%), excess search (6%) • ILL Fee Management Program is not part of the Financial Credits Program and is not under review If recommendations are approved by the OCLC Board of Trustees they will go into effect July 1, 2014 and credits will be gradually phased out by June 30, 2016

In May 2012, OCLC implemented the changes related to the OCLC-MARC Bibliographic, Authority, and Holdings Formats Update 2012, which are detailed in OCLC Technical Bulletin 261. This includes MARC 21 Updates No. 13 and No. 14, code list additions and changes published chiefly since August 2011, and other suggestions from WorldCat users and OCLC staff. ISSN update from CONSER meeting at ALA (January 2013) / Regina Reynolds 1) Issuing ISSNs to new journals • ISSN centers are deferring assignment of an ISSN until the first issue is published • Why: Predatory open access publishers. 2) New policy: ISSNs are being assigned to digital reproductions • E.g., JSTOR titles • Exception: if there is an ISSN for a born digital copy already (a non-reproduction), that ISSN will apply to the reproduction, too • The same ISSN will apply to a version for a mobile device or e book reader • The U.S. Center will assign ISSNs for all the serials in the HathiTrust • • Will talk to CRL about digital newspapers Journals may have an icon that indicates they are ISSN compliant

• • Launched in 2011 by Google, Bing, Yahoo! • Vocabulary for coding web documents. This allows the metadata to be used in browser searches, etc.

LCGFT/LCSH: Globes
• • The LCGFT Globes has been expanded to permit usage for any astronomical body and the LCGFT Lunar Globes has been cancelled. Furthermore, the LCSH form heading, –Globes has been cancelled in favor of the form subdivision –Maps. Medium of performance (LCMPT)
• • • • • The Library of Congress, in cooperation with the Music Library Association, has begun developing a thesaurus for the medium of performance of musical works – Library of Congress Medium of Performance Thesaurus for Music (LCMPT) Also intended to be used as a source vocabulary for RDA’s “medium of performance” element (MARC field 382). • • • In April 2013, the LC Policy and Standards Division (PSD) made the announcement that the subdivision –Law and legislation will be authorized to use under LCSH headings for crimes PSD has undertaken a project to establish headings for crimes with the subdivision –Law and legislation as well as revise existing headings and bibliographic records as necessary. LCSH: Subject category codes
• • Library of Congress has undertaken an experiment to add subject category codes (072) to subject authority records, which will complement the subdivision usage codes (073) in subdivision authority records. There are three expected benefits to adding this information: 1.

The usability of LCSH on the Semantic Web will be enhanced It will allow ILSs and resource discovery platforms to assist catalogers in determining appropriate subdivisions for subject headings 3.
It will improve automatic heading string creation and validation The experiment is currently in progress. As of December 2012, approximately 200 records have been edited 64

22. LCC: Subclass KIA-KIX
• • • Class KIA-KIX for the Law of the Indigenous Peoples in the Americas was added to the LC Law Classification in 2012. The purpose of the new schedule was “to provide for the first time a geographical and substantive arrangement for Indigenous People in the Americas, their organization, and the unique and complex body of legal sources concerning these peoples.” A new guide and bibliography for the classification schedule is now available in draft stage and can be found here: http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/kia_intro.html
