current process in offices, laboratories,
hospitals: Any place where the 'product' is
not directly visible or physical.

Allen Morgenstern
Father of Process Analysis and Work Simplification
 According to Isao Kato what we call value stream mapping
origins can be traced back to Allen Morgenstern who is
considered the Father of Process Analysis and Work
Simplification. The first complete description I can find of
the process is in the 1944 Production Handbook edited by
L.P. Alford and John R. Bangs and in notes from 1939 of
the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This
process was used by Toyota (and is still occasionally used)
until the 1990′s when they started to use a tool they
developed called the Material and Information Flow
Analysis Form. It is a variation of this form that we now
call Value Stream Mapping.
