Volleyball Canada
Centre of Excellence
Saskatchewan Region
What is the problem?
1. Canadian athletes have poor fundamental volleyball skills.
2. Canadian 16-18 year old athletes are around 100 hours/year
short in the LTAD recommended amount of practice time.
3. Canadian youth are mainly coached by volunteers, whereas
other top countries use paid professionals.
4. Very few athletes are training enough, in a quality
environment. Target of 800 (per gender) across Canada for
grades 10-12.
What is the Solution?
1. Provide additional training for 16-18 year olds. (75-100 hours). This allows
us to reach the recommended 4 days a week for 9 months.
2. Provide additional training for 13-15 year olds. (50 hours) to start in
2013/14.
3. Use professional ‘Development Coaches’
