Drug- Any substance (other than food) that can change the structure or function of the body or mind Example- cocaine and heroin Medicine- A drug that prevents , treats, or cures illnesses, or eases its symptoms Example- Tylenol, antibiotics Reasons we use medications: •Prevent Diseases example- vaccines •Fight Germs example- antibiotics •Relieve Pain example- ibuprofen •Treat other medical conditions example- cold medication Medicines that can be used safely with a doctors written permission Example- antibiotics All drugs are tested for safety and approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA also decides which drugs are prescription and overthe-counter. Preparations of dead or weak germs that are most commonly injected into the body causing it to make antibodies. Examples- polio, measles, chicken pox Drugs used to treat severe or chronic pain Drugs made by microorganisms to Examplesstop or kill other microorganisms Tylenol with (germs) Only can be used against codeine,Vicodin, bacterial infections. When 2 or more drugs are taken at the same time. It can multiply (greatly increase) the effects, weaken the effects or cancel each other out!
