Customer Challenge
▌ While a well planned wellbore strengthening program is your best
defense against lost circulation, complete prevention is not always
possible. The lack of a well thought out remediation plan for lost
circulation could cause:
 Increased non-productive time
 Decreased wellbore value
 Health and safety issues

6
Customer Challenge
▌ Curing lost circulation becomes more
difficult based on formation type and rate
of fluid loss.
 Classifications of Fluid Loss*
− Seepage: <10 bbl/hr
− Partial: 10-50 bbl/hr
− Severe: 50-100 bbl/hr
− Total: >100 bbl/hr – no returns
*The range for each classification vary between operators

7
Customer Challenge
▌ The risk of lost circulation becomes more prevalent when drilling
formations with:
 High permeability
 Natural fractures
 Low ECD Margins
(induced fractures)

STOPPIT® Lost Circulation Material
▌ An “engineered, composite” lost circulation material with increased
“toughness” to give operators a cost-effective solution to mitigate partial
to severe fluid loss rates, reducing non-productive time and saving
money.

Baroid’s Solution
▌ STOPPIT® lost circulation material
 Increased material “toughness”
provides superior sealing and is
resistant to downhole pressure
changes caused by:
− Swab/surge pressures
− Wellbore breathing
(“ballooning”)
− Bit reaming
− Mechanical abrasion

STOPPIT ® LCM Stops Oil Based Fluid Losses in Horizontal
Wellbore
Location: Cana Woodford Shale
CHALLENGE:
 Drilling well with projected MD of 18,086 ft., including 7,500-ft lateral
 Once on bottom, severe lost circulation was encountered
 A 20 lb/bbl pill of a competitor’s product was pumped with no
improvement, followed by 40 lb/bbl of same material with no
additional improvement
SOLUTION:
 Due to previous success and its reduced cost, the decision was
made to use STOPPIT® LCM
 Filled open hole section with an 80 lb/bbl pill, tripped out of hole to
5,000 feet and wait 8 hrs
 80 lb/bbl pill was pumped successfully through 6 ¾ –inch SperryDrill
motor as well as MWD pulser tool
RESULT:
 On completion of the 8hr waiting period, they began to trip in the hole,
circulating with full returns every 1,000 feet
 Once at bottom, they circulated bottoms up with full returns
 A total of 943 bbl of INVERMUL fluid was lost prior to the
pumping of STOPPIT® with zero losses after its application

STOPPIT® LCM Enables Recovery from Total Losses
Location: Granite Wash – Wheeler County, TX
CHALLENGE:
 After landing the curve at 90°, the operator experienced
complete fluid loss
 After several attempts with third party LCM squeezes, no
circulation improvement was observed
SOLUTION:
 Baroid engineers recommended a hesitation squeeze using
80lb/bbl of STOPPIT® lost circulation material
 The pill was allowed to soak for 7 hours after being pumped
through a 5-inch drill pipe and spotted 11,680 ft. MD
RESULT:
 Full returns were observed and pump pressure was slowly
raised until drilling was able to resume
 Well was completed without performing cement squeeze or
setting 7-inch liner. Well was drilled to total depth of 16,800
ft. MD within 10 days of initial fluid loss
