A Career in Interpreting

• • Basic requirement: professional interpreting degree or having impressive command of particular language • How about nonprofessional interpreting opportunities?

Best way to start: get a position of an in-house or a governmental interpreter • Get the ticket to become a conference interpreter!

(graduate student at NTNU Institute of Translation and Interpretation) • Q: Do we have to go to grad schools to become professional translators? A: Not necessarily, if you are good enough, you will make it with or without grad school education.

• Q: What are the advantages & disadvantages of studying translation here in Taiwan and abroad?

A: Varies, depends on where you would like to work.

• Q: What is the job market of translators & interpreters like?

A: Very competitive, many institutes are offering training opportunities, but again, the market will decide if you are the real deal or not.
