What are homophones?
Many commonly confused words are homophones –
words which sound exactly the same but which are spelt
differently. Some words are confused because, whilst not
exactly the same, they sound or look very similar.
How many pairs or groups of homophones can you
think of?

What are heteronyms?
Heteronyms are words which are spelt the same but are
pronounced differently and have different meanings.
For example:
We rowed the boat across the lake.
I rowed with my mother last night.
How many other heteronyms can you think of?
