ADMS is installed… Now what?

 Send Vaults & Libraries from the Publisher to the Subscriber © 2012 Autodesk

Demo

Make sure replication is functioning properly

 On the Publisher and each Subscriber  add a new file  Get ownership of a previously existing file  Check it out / Modify it / Check it in  Check other workflows (items / change orders)  By performing these tests you will be validating that the file store and database replication is indeed working.

Nuts and Bolts of Vault Replication setup Module 4: Learn how to upgrade an Autodesk Vault replicated environment

James McMullen Senior Software Quality Engineer, DLS – Digital PLM & DM © 2012 Autodesk

Module Objective

 Explain backing up / restoring an environment  Explain upgrading from release to release © 2012 Autodesk

Backing up / restoring an environment

© 2012 Autodesk

How does backup and restore work?

 Backup is handled on the Publisher only  A restore is done only on the Publisher  Subscribers will have to be rebuilt © 2012 Autodesk

What to Backup if you are using a 3 rd party utility

 All Vault databases: Knowledgevaultmaster, vaults & libraries.

 System databases: Master & MSDB  Distribution database: Autodeskreplication  SQL Service master key  File Store  SQL snapshot folder © 2012 Autodesk

Keys to Success

 Databases and file stores backed up regularly  Each site should backup their file store  Regular file store validation checks  Test environments  Regular monitoring  Constant synchronization within the retention period © 2012 Autodesk

Restore Requirements

 Restored to a computer with the same name  Same SQL Server edition as the original  Restored within 14 days  File store validation needs to be run © 2012 Autodesk

Upgrading from release to release

© 2012 Autodesk

How do I upgrade from one release to another?

 Always take a backup  Restore on a test environment  Plan the down time based on the restore  Upgrade a site in the Publisher workgroup first  Upgrade a site in the Subscriber workgroup  Test the upgrade © 2012 Autodesk

Make sure replication is functioning properly

 On the Publisher and each Subscriber  add a new file  Get ownership of a previously existing file  Check it out / Modify it / Check it in  Check other workflows (items / change orders)  By performing these tests you will be validating that the file store and database replication is working.
