Unit 6 – Sports Development

Responsible for sports provision at higher levels
of performance. This also includes elite level
(International Performance)
The organisations are responsible for a range of
national factors involved in sports
participation including funding, e.g. Sport
England or UK Sport
A £2 million investment has ensured homegrown athletes training for 2012 will have
access to the best possible facilities as they bid
for Olympic and Paralympics gold.
The centre caters for an extensive range of sports at all
levels and is fully accessible to the public. It is the home of
British Gymnastics and Archery GB, and hosts a wide range
of residential programmes for these and other sports.
This multi-sport venue has a range of high quality facilities that are used
predominantly by the community. However it is also the home of the
Yorkshire region of the English Institute of Sport and is used by a number of
national governing bodies, including boxing, judo, badminton, netball,
table tennis, handball and volleyball.
The centre runs a year round programme of mountain sports
courses including rock climbing, mountaineering, scrambling,
hill walking, orienteering, mountain biking, skiing, kayaking
and canoeing.

