Haematopinus suis
• Belongs to the suborder Anoplura(虱目)
• The swine louse is the largest louse
affecting domestic animals（家畜） and is
of common occurrence wherever the hog
is found. The pig is its only host, and when
not molested the parasite is likely to
increase in large numbers and cause an
unthrifty condition in a herd.

claws each on its six legs.
The wide body is grayishbrown with black edges.
This is the only louse of
swine.

• The lice live frequently in the folds of skin
on neck and jowl, the inside and base of
ears ,the inside of legs, the flanks , and
the back in smaller numbers, where they
crawl under the scales to get in contact
with the new skin.

• Affects growth rate and efficiency of food
conversion;

• Therapeutic agents may be applied to the
pig in the form of sprays(喷雾),pour-ons
and dusting powders.
