• 21 Data Centers, accredited by Ministry
of Knowledge and Economy (MKE), are
authorized to collect, produce, edit, and
evaluate the standard reference data
• 21 Technology Commissions, each of
which consists of 7 experts from industry,
academia, and/or government sector,
finally approve the official request from
the data centers

• Establishment : Oct 12th, 2010
• Objectives: SSS helps activate the research
on standards and standardization, the
interaction between academia and industry,
standards organizations and the
constructive communication among
stakeholders to satisfy the demands for
standards and standardization from country,
companies, and consumer and to
contribute to the development in quality of
life.

Conclusions
• High dependency on academia in
standardization activities. Research institute
follows.
• Need active communication and collaboration
between industry and academia/research
institute
• The first academic community for standard in
Korea, Society for Standards and Standardization
(SSS), was officially launched in October, 2010
– Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS)
and Korean Standard Association (KSA) sponsored
and supported the launch of this academic
community
