1ST STEP TEST YOUR JAVA CONFIGURATION





Your computer needs to run Java 6
(also known as Java 1.6). You can
download Java from www.java.com
Test your Java configuration by
performing both of the following tests:
Visit the Java test page . You should see
a message that Java is working and
that the version is Java 1.6.
Run the AppInventor Java test by
clicking on. This will check that your
browser is properly configured to run
Java, and that your computer can
launch applications with Java Web
Start.
App Inventor will not work on your
computer if these tests do not succeed.
DON’T go on to try to use App Inventor
until you've dealt with the issue.
TEST JAVA WEB ON YOUR COMPUTER

Use your browser to go to one of
the Java Web Start demos at:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwor
k/java/demos-nojavascript137100.html

When you 1st go to one of the
demos, your web browser will
usually ask you what do you want
do to with the underlying JNLP file
(Java Network Launching Protocol)

Select Open with > Java (TM) Web
Start Launcher

Also enable “Do this automatically
for files like this from now on”
before clicking OK, so in the future
you will be able to start the AI Bloks
Editor with one simple click. (Note:
this box may or may note appear
depending on your browser)
2ND STEP PLEASE CHOSE YOUR COMPUTER
AND OPERATING SYSTEM
Macintosh (with Intel processor): Mac OS
X 10.5, 10.6
Windows: Windows XP, Windows Vista,
Windows 7
GNU/Linux: Ubuntu 8+, Debian 5+
3RD STEP IS: DOWNLOAD THE INSTALLER
 Go to : http://beta.appinventor.mit.edu/learn/setup/setupmac.html
 Download the installer by clicking on the word “Download”
 Now there is a trick notice that if you go in your Downloads folder you will have a
file called ”AppInventor_Setup_v_1.1.dmg ” not “AppInventorSetup.pkg”
 To find “AppInventorSetup.pkg “ just click on Finder. And there you have it now
double-click on it and follow the instructions from the website
4TH STEP: WELCOME TO APP INVENTOR
 In order to use App Inventor
you will need a Gmail
account if you don’t have
one you will have to sign up
for one on www.gmail.com (it
is very easy)
 Now go to
http://www.appinventor.mit.e
du/ and in the upper right
corner is a button “Use MIT
App Inventor” just click on it,
introduce your Gmail user
name and password and you
are now able to use App
Inventor
3RD STEP IS: DOWNLOAD THE INSTALLER
 Go to : http://beta.appinventor.mit.edu/learn/setup/setupwindows.html
 Download the installer by clicking on the word “Download”
 Choose the target directory on your computer and confirm the download by
clicking OK
 Locate the file ”AppInventor_Setup_Installer_v_1_2.exe” (~92 MB) in your
Downloads file or your Desktop. The location of the download on your computer
depends on how your browser is configured
 And there you have it now double-click on it and follow the instructions from the
website
