INTRODUCTION
In the last year we had more than a hundred Visitors to Care & Share – people who came not
just to see but to stay and contribute. This is the prime indicator of the vibrancy of Care &
Share. Apart from the fact of the number of children and families who have been helped and
the volume of assistance given in the last year (seen in the following pages of the Report), to
me, that so many people volunteered their time speaks volumes about Care & Share.
I must thank all our Donors for their precious help and all our Sponsors who are changing the
lives of so many: one child at a time... one day at a time!
Some special people need a special – Thank you!
Thanks to Anna Zegna for her constant encouragement and interest in Care & Share. During the
year she sent several “experts” to Care & Share to seek ways and means to make us more
professional and more self-reliant. With her help we are about to upgrade our Tailoring unit
into one which, we hope, will support Care & Share in the future.
Thanks to Mr Arnaldo Zappa for his continued support for “our” BUTTERFLY HILL VILLAGE
project. Thanks to him we received two Containers with IKEA furniture and our Babies’ Home
and Butterfly Hill Dispensary now have beautiful beds and furniture.
Thanks to Dr Paolo Bortoluzzi and Dr Evaristo Arnaldi and the Clown group. In more ways than
one you have given our children beautiful smiles!
Thanks to Hayward and Edite Rigano of Colorado, USA, for their help to build the Guardian
Angel Dispensary and for making it possible to provide medical care for our HIV+ children at
Butterfly Hill.
In January we celebrated “DADDY’S HOME IS 10 YEARS OLD”. It was a very nostalgic moment to
recall the first tentative steps which Care & Share took as a toddler. Thanks to our first Angels –
Graziella Vigo, Rena Garazioti and Mara De Bellis.
Thanks to Dr Stefano Del Torso and all the Doctors of CCWW for healing our children.
My thanks go to each and every one who gave their skills, their time and above all their love to
the children. They have certainly impacted the lives of our children...and we will never really
know how much... but definitely very profoundly!

Chairman

PROJECT : RICE SELF-SUFFICIENCY
Objective :
To grow sufficient Rice to feed the children in our Homes
Strategy:
To acquire 36 acres of Paddy fields in two phases to grow Rice –
First Phase
(2010)
: 20 Acres
Second Phase (2011)
: 16 Acres
Rice Requirement : Sweet Home, Night Shelter & Autonagar (750 kgs), Bishop Azaraiah (1,650 kgs),
Ginny’s Home (195 kgs), Butterfly Hill (1,950 kgs), Daddy’s Home(4,500 kgs),
Asha Jyothi (510 kgs), Happy Home (210 kgs), Toti’s Home (150 kgs)
Helen Keller Home (750 kgs)
Present Requirement of Rice
Per Month: 10,665 Kgs (426+ Bags of 25 Kg each)
Per Year: 127,980 Kgs (5,119+ Bags of 25 Kg each)
Cost of Rice per year : 127,980 kgs X Rs. 30 = Rs. 3,839,400 (Euro 63.990) @ Rs 60
Fields & Paddy yield: Each Acre yields 35 bags of paddy
1 bag of paddy yields 52 kgs of rice
Total Rice yield from 36 Acres is: 36 acres x 35 bags x 52 kgs = 65,520 kgs
Total Rice yield from 2 crops = 131,040 kgs of Rice
Location:
We propose to purchase 36 acres paddy fields at Ogirala village
The village is about 55 kms from Vijayawada.
The fields are 2 kms from the village.
There is an approach road to the fields. The village population is about 2,000.
Agriculture is the main occupation and paddy is the major crop.
Reasons:
• The fields are of fertile black alluvial soil
• They are irrigated by the Krishna River – a canal flows adjacent to the land
• Two paddy crops per year in this area (July - December & January - April)
• After the second crop we can also grow a variety of green fodder for cattle
Cost of Paddy fields:
First Phase 20 Acres Rs 600,000 x 20 = Rs 12,000,000 (Euro 200.000)
Second Phase 16 Acres Rs 600,000 x 16 = Rs 9,600,000 (Euro 160.000)
Total 36 Acres Rs 21,600,000 (Euro 360.000)
Paddy Fields acquired in March 2010 - 6 Acres 24 Cents for Rs 3,462,378 (Euro 57.706)
