Wien:
• die Hauptstadt Österreichs
und zugleich ein eigenes
Bundesland
• zählt ca. 1,6 Millionen Einwohner
• erstreckt sich an beiden Ufern Donaus
• wirtschaftliches, industrielles, administratives,
politisches und kulturelles Zentrum des Landes
• die dritte UNO-Stadt
• beliebte Konferenzstadt
• Sitz vieler internationalen Organisationen, Hochschulen
und der ältesten österreichischen Universität
Wien:
• hat sehr reiche Geschichte (z. B.: in den Jahren 1282
–
1918 war es die Hauptstadt der Habsburger Monarchie
• reich an Bauwerken aller Epochen
• wird als Musikstadt bezeichnet (J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart,
L. v. Beethoven, F. Schubert, J. Brahms, J. Strauß u. a.)
• eines der Wahrzeichen von Wien ist der gotische
Stephansdom im historischen Stadtkern
Wien:
• andere Barockbauten: die Hofburg (ehemalige kaiserliche
Winterresidenz, heute der Amtssitz des Bundespräsidenten), das
Schloss Schönbrunn (ehemalige Sommerresidenz der Habsburger)
• sehenswert sind auch das Natur- /Kunsthistorische Museum, die
Wiener Staatsoper, das neugotische Rathaus, das Burgtheater,
das Hundertwasserhaus und der Vergnügungspark Prater
• bei den Touristen auch durch die Boulvards und die
Einkaufsstraßen Graben, Mariahilfestraße und Kärtnerstraße
bekannt
