


Students graduating with a two-year
transfer-oriented associate degree program.
Students graduating with a one-year General
Education Certificate.
Transfer articulation agreements for specific
degree programs.
Guaranteed Admission Agreement

“Students who graduate from a transferoriented degree program at a Virginia
community college with a 2.5 cumulative
GPA and who meet the eligibility
requirements are guaranteed admission to
and may enroll in VCU.”

 Key
details:
 Transfer-oriented associate degrees = Associate of Arts
(A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.), and Associate of Arts and
Science (A.A.&.S).
 Minimum GPA requirement = 2.5 with no grades below a C
(i.e., repeat D or F grades at community college).
 Careful selection of community college courses will result in
completion of general education and lower-level
requirements for VCU degree programs.
 Does NOT guarantee admission into specific VCU programs
(e.g., art, engineering, nursing, etc).

Key details:
 General Education Certificate can be completed in 2-3
semesters.
 Minimum GPA requirement = 2.5 with no grades below a C
(i.e., repeat D or F grades at community college).
 Writing requirement = complete ENG 111, ENG 112,
and ENG 210.
 Certificate will complete most if not all general education
requirements for VCU degree programs.
 Does NOT guarantee admission into specific VCU programs
(e.g., art, engineering, nursing, etc).
Letter of Interest



After students earn 15 credits hour at community
college, students should submit a “Letter of Interest” to
VCU.
This allows us to identify prospective students to VCU so
we can start providing pre-admission advising services.
We can also track the academic progress of students
from the time they enroll at John Tyler through
graduation at VCU.
Benefits of the Guaranteed Admission
Agreement
Students are guaranteed admission to
VCU.
 With careful selection of courses, students
can complete course-work that fulfill the
first 1 or 2 years of a VCU degree.
 Affordability of community college.
 Students are better prepared academically
for rigors of VCU.


Articulation agreements specify two-year course
sequence at community college.

 Provide recommendations for the best path
to degree completion.
 Also provide specific course
recommendations for individual community
colleges.
 Example: A.S in General Studies for the B.S.
in Mass Communications.
