Lesson 1

Objectives:
• Students will be able to...
– Demonstrate good and poor examples of
public speaking characteristics.
– Connect with the meaning of paragraph one
of The FFA Creed by creating an artistic
picture displaying their interpretation.
– Memorize the first paragraph of The FFA
Creed.
• Show the creed video
• How many of you have had previous
speaking experiences:
• How many of you have given speeches in
school?
• How many of you have given a speech in
public before?
• Have any of you ever been on the radio or
on TV for an interview before?
Why is it important to learn the creed
– 1. To know more about the core values of
FFA and agriculture.
– 2. For receiving the Greenhand FFA Degree.
– 3. To prepare for a career development event.
– 4. For experience in public speaking.

• I need 5 volunteers to act out good and poor examples of each
characteristic to demonstrate how to properly reflect each attribute:
• Clarify expectations of each attribute.

• Using the student handbook (p.30) lets read the
first paragraph of the FFA Creed.
I believe in the future of agriculture, with a
faith born not of words but of deeds achievements won by the present and past
generations of agriculturists; in the promise
of better days through better ways, even as
the better things we now enjoy have come to
us from the struggles of former years.
• Using Creed –HO1 paragraph 1 lets
dissect the meaning of the paragraph so
that the we understand what all of the
words mean.
Individual work
• Using a piece of paper and art supplies show
what the first paragraph of The FFA Creed
means to you.
• It may be helpful to write the words somewhere
on the drawing to refer to and help with
memorization.
• Turn it in before you leave class.
Assignment for next class
• 1. Memorize the first paragraph of The FFA
Creed for the following class period. You will
receive 25 extra credit points for reciting the
paragraph in front of the class.
• 2. Pick one question from the FFA Creed
Questions (Creed – HO1, paragraph 1) to
answer the following class period. You may write
the question down and come up with an answer
before the next class period.
Creed Grading
• Each Paragraph will be worth 50 points.
– 30 points will be for accuracy of reciting the
creed.
– 10 points will be for Inflection, Volume, and
Tempo of speaking.
– 10 points will be for the response to the
question given in class last time.
