The Truth Shall Set You Free!
People are dumb…
John 8:31-40 ESV
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him,
"If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set
you free." 33 They answered him, "We are offspring of
Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone.
How is it that you say, 'You will become free'?"
34 Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you,
everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. 35 The
slave does not remain in the house forever; the son
remains forever.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free
indeed. 37 I know that you are offspring of
Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my
word finds no place in you. 38 I speak of what I
have seen with my Father, and you do what you
have heard from your father."
39 They answered him, "Abraham is our father."
Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's
children, you would be doing what Abraham did…

What Does “set you free” mean?
Comes from the Greek word
eleutheroo (el-yoo-ther-o'-o); to liberate
KJV - deliver, make free.
Only used 6 times in the bible
Romans 6:16-18 NLT
Don't you realize that you become the slave of
whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave
to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to
obey God, which leads to righteous living.
17 Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now
you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have
given you.
18 Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and
you have become slaves to righteous living
16
Romans 6:20-23
When you were slaves to sin, you were free from
the obligation to do right. 21 And what was the
result? You are now ashamed of the things you
used to do, things that end in eternal doom.
22 But now you are free from the power of sin and
have become slaves of God. Now you do those
things that lead to holiness and result in eternal
life.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of
God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Are You Free “Indeed” or in “Theory”
There is therefore now no condemnation for
those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of
the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ
Jesus from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:1-2 ESV
Galatians 3:1-6 ESV
O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It
was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was
publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you
only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of
the law or by hearing with faith?
Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit,
are you now being perfected by the flesh?
Did you suffer so many things in vain—if
indeed it was in vain? Does he who supplies
the Spirit to you and works miracles among
you do so by works of the law, or by hearing
with faith— just as Abraham "believed God,
and it was counted to him as righteousness"?
Galatians 3:1-6 ESV
Galatians 5:1
It was for freedom that Christ set us free;
therefore keep standing firm and do not be
subject again to a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:1 NASB
So Christ has truly set us free. Now make
sure that you stay free, and don't get tied up
again in slavery to the law.
Galatians 5:1 NLT
Christian Stockholm Syndrome?
In psychology, Stockholm syndrome is a term used to
describe a paradoxical psychological phenomenon
wherein hostages express adulation and have positive
feelings towards their captors that appear irrational in light
of the danger or risk endured by the victims. The FBI’s
Hostage Barricade Database System shows that roughly
27% of victims show evidence of Stockholm syndrome.

1 John 2:1-2 ESV
My little children, I am writing these things to
you so that you may not sin. But if anyone
does sin, we have an advocate with the
Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for
ours only but also for the sins of the whole
world.
You Don’t Have to Sin…You are Free!
No temptation has overtaken you that is not
common to man. God is faithful, and he will
not let you be tempted beyond your ability,
but with the temptation he will also provide
the way of escape, that you may be able to
endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV
Really? Yes Really…
If you can go an hour without sin why not 12?
If you can go 12 why not 24?
If you can go 24 why not a week?
If you can go a week why not a month?
If you can go a month why not this year?
We Have to Change our Mindset
Basically we have to repent…
REPENT
metanoeo (NT:3340) "to perceive afterwards"
(meta, "after," implying "change," noeo, "to perceive";
nous, "the mind, the seat of moral reflection")
hence signifies "to change one's mind or purpose,"
always, in the NT, involving a change for the better, an
amendment, and always of "repentance" from sin.

Stop applying Scriptures for the
lost to your Christian Life
You Are Found!
Pre-Christians Seek God!
Christians if you have “found” Him stop
seeking and start getting to know Him-be
intimate with Him-Hang out with Him
Once you find it, live in it!
But seek first the kingdom of God and his
righteousness, and all these things will be
added to you.
Matthew 6:33 ESV
You Are A New Creation!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation. The old has passed away; behold,
the new has come. All this is from God, who
through Christ reconciled us to himself and
gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
2 Corinthians 5:17-19 ESV
We are Righteous in Him!
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ,
God making his appeal through us. We
implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled
to God. For our sake he made him to be sin
who knew no sin, so that in him we might
become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:20-21ESV
We Bear Fruit To Glorify Him!
If you abide in me, and my words abide in
you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be
done for you.
By this my Father is glorified, that you bear
much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
John 15:7-8 ESV
1 John 2:12-14 ESV
I am writing to you, little children, because your sins
are forgiven for his name's sake.
I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him
who is from the beginning…
I write to you, young men, because you are strong,
and the word of God abides in you, and you have
overcome the evil one.
Are You Free?
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be
free indeed.”
John 8:36
