EGG DIFFUSION LAB
Title: Egg Diffusion Lab
Problem: What will happen to the mass and
texture of an egg when placed in vinegar, corn
syrup, and water?
Background: Include explanations/answers to
the following topics in complete sentences. You
also need to include one introductory statement
and a conclusion sentence. This background
should be in paragraph form, like an essay.
Define & explain diffusion and osmosis
Define & explain isotonic, hypertonic, and hypotonic
What determines whether or not diffusion occurs?
How is the membrane of an egg (inside the shell)
similar to a cell membrane?
Hypothesis:
If the egg is soaked in vinegar, then _______________
If the egg is soaked in corn syrup, then _____________
If the egg is soaked in water, then _________________
Procedure:
Materials List: egg, beaker, balance, vinegar, corn
syrup, water
Instructions: Write and number the steps taken to
complete the experiment.
Variables:
Identify the independent variable: _______________________
Identify the dependent variable: ________________________

Line or bar graph, label x and y axis, title the graph
Discussion:
Describe your data chart and graph. Using the data,
describe and explain the changes that occurred in the
egg at each step. Use actual numbers to back up
your findings. Reference your graph.
Discuss 2 possible sources of error within the
procedure used and 2 possible effects of those errors
on the outcome of the lab.
Conclusion:
Restate the purpose.
Summarize the results of the experiment.
Explain if the data supported your hypothesis or not.
Explain if the results make sense based on your
background knowledge.
Describe modifications your could make to this
experiment to further investigate the problem
