8 - 11 November 2011
2011 World Archery Coaching Seminar
Coach Education is based
on Long Term Athlete Development
•Archery is a late

•All Coach training

participants reach
their maximum
potential
2011 World Archery Coaching Seminar
Why LTAD?
LTAD Background - Key Messages:
• There was a need to rationalize the current
sports system. Before LTAD all sports did their
own thing
• Simple approach which allowed easy adaption
by individual sports.
• Enabled easy links back to sport in schools
• Evolution not revolution!
2011 World Archery Coaching Seminar
Focuses on Windows of
Trainability’
The success of any LTAD system relies upon
coaches (& teachers) who;
Understand children
Appreciate how a child’s overall development
influences participation and performance in
sport and physical activities
Can relate to, and communicate with,
children
It is vital that coaches are aware of the
so-called critical periods of “accelerated
adaptation” so that these windows of
opportunity are exploited to their full potential

Candidates left to manage their own assessment
Struggled to find archers to work with
Process lasted over 12 months so they gave up
