KYX: A Brief History
K
appa Upsilon Chi is a national fraternity for
Christian men composed of Christian collegians
seeking to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Four men of differing denominational backgrounds
created the Alpha chapter in the winter of 1993 at
Texas Tech University in response to the demand for a
Christian brotherhood on campus. Because of the
desire of young men to become part of a Christian
brotherhood, and its dedication to upholding Biblical
Christian Standards, Kappa Chi has grown to eight
chapters. Four new chapters have recently been
inducted.
History of Eta Chapter
E
ta chapter began seeking out this
sort of brotherhood in the Fall of 2003.
Soon after making contact with the
Alumni body of KYX, nine pledges were
inducted in February of 2004 and seven
were initiated into the fraternity in
Weatherford, TX in August of 2004. Eta
chapter continues to grow and develop
in its walk with Christ due in large part
to the accountability and support offered
by KYX and its brothers.
Statement of Purpose
Kappa Upsilon Chi exists for several reasons. Our greatest desire
is to glorify our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We also seek to
uphold and maintain biblical Christian standards, to be an
influence in the community through servant lifestyles, to
pursue a positive attitude and spirit, and to help others
strengthen their academic achievement, enabling them to be
what the Lord calls them to be. We do this by submitting to the
Lord our God and allowing him to direct our lives stated:
"Search me, oh God, and know my heart. Test me and know
my anxious thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:23-24. Since
our purpose does not parallel with Greek organizations and
the Interfraternity Council, we choose not to abide by the rules
and the rights of the IFC. We seek solely to do the will of God.
Eta Chapter Mission Statement
The Eta chapter of Kappa Upsilon Chi is in existence for several
reasons. Our greatest desire is to honor God by using the talents
He has blessed each of us with to influence the campus of
Lamar under the leadership of Christ. We also seek to serve one
another as brothers in Christ, serve the community of Beaumont
and surrounding areas, move forward as a unified body of
disciples, and encourage one another by promoting academic
achievement. We do this to become the dynamic and engaging
men of God that we are called to be. “We preach about him.
With all wisdom we have, we warn and teach everyone. When
we bring them to God, we want them to be perfect as people who
belong to Christ. That’s what I’m working for. I work hard with all
of Christ’s strength. His strength works powerfully in me.”
Colossians 1:28-29
