VisionMaster FT Radar - Performance Standards
IEC 62388 : 2007 – Marine Shipborne Radar Equipment
–
Specifies the minimum operational and performance requirements, methods of testing and required test results conforming to
performance standards not inferior to those adopted by the IMO in Resolution MSC.192(79). Covers the testing of all SOLAS
shipborne radar equipment. Individual equipment may be tested for a specific category of vessel. Provides a summary of the
categories and basic differential capabilities for each category.
IEC 62288 : 2008 – Presentation of navigation-related information on shipborne navigational
displays
–
specifies the general requirements, methods of testing, and required test results, for the presentation of navigation-related
information on shipborne navigational displays in support of IMO resolution MSC.191(79).
IEC60945 : 2002 – General Requirements for Marine Navigation Equipment
–
specifies minimum performance requirements, methods of testing and required test results for general requirements which can
be applied to those characteristics common to equipment like:
●
shipborne radio equipment
●
shipborne navigational equipment required by the International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS)
●
for EMC only, all other bridge-mounted equipment, equipment in close proximity to receiving antennas, and equipment
capable of interfering with safe navigation of the ship and with radio-communications
All type approved systems carry on the wheelmark

ECDIS IMO Implementation Plan
New Built
Retrofit
● Ships my be exempt from the requirements if they will be taken permanently
out of service within two years after the implementation date specified
IHO Standards
● International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) is the official body
ensuring the worldwide uniformity of ENC’s issued by different
organizations
● IHO Special Publication S-57 “IHO Transfer Standard for Digital
Hydrographic Data”
● IHO Publication S-63 “IHO Data Protection Scheme”
● IHO Data Check, 19 key anomalies in the way that ECDIS displays Data
● VisionMaster ECDIS software v5.5 is compliant to IHO requirements
Mark pages according to the proprietary level of information as described in Company Procedure J103 (or remove)
Training for ECDIS
● ECDIS training is as “mandatory” as chart training
● Ship owners or operators must ensure that personnel
are given proper familiarization with their duties
– Proficiency in ECDIS
– Some state flag may require ECDIS training certification for the
crew
● Training Offer
– Operator Training – in house on NGSM ECDIS, Hamburg,
Copenhagen, Singapore, New Orleans
– Remote Training – 5 Safebridge license per ECDIS node sold
– Training Centres – ETC ECDIS Training Consortium
– Off work training – NGSM Dongle 32SDR010
● VisionMaster FT software v5.6 will include new
installer to deliver a product suitable for “out of the
box” installation on a normal desktop pc
