• Please pay attention to CIP 2012 for Objective
1.3: Open Innovation for Internet-enabled
services and next generation access (NGA)
services in 'smart' cities:
• The goal is to stimulate demand for innovative
services and applications based on next
generation access (NGA) networks
CIP 2012 Objective 1.3
• Pilots to tests and validates sophisticated
connected TV apps that are open to
collaboration with third parties, with a view
to promoting the early adoption of new
paradigm for users and media interactions.

Work with stakeholders to develop a new
generation of web-based applications
and services, including for multilingual
content and services, by supporting
standards and open platforms through
EU-funded programmes.

• Identify those projects amenable to exploitation of results
through web-based applications and services (pilot to be
started at D2 with the help of CSA project SMARD)
• Set up a framework of cooperation among these projects
• Foster effective sharing of their research achievements
• Enhance cooperation activities and opportunities for joint
standardisation
• Facilitate networking and synergy among the
stakeholders
• Facilitate contacts with other initiatives in support of
innovation as AccessICT, ICT Finance Market Place,
entrepreneurs, VCs, etc
What is SMARD?
• Support action to fill the gap within the exploitation chain
between successful projects and the commercialisation by
SMEs.
• The Consortium is led by MFG Baden-Württemberg and
comprises European partners from Salzburg Region
(Salzburg Research), Flanders (IBBT) and Piemonte (CSP
innovazione nelle ICT).
• The vision is to leverage advanced digital media
technologies for SMEs from the creative industries, etc.
• The project tackles two core questions:
– the degree of the responsiveness of FP7 projects to SME
needs and requirements
– What are the needs in terms of R&D for successful market
introduction.
What is EMC2
• EMC2 is a support action to establish a Centre
of Excellence in Media Computing and
Communication (MC2)
• EMC2 provides a framework to bridge the gap
between industrial players and academic
research groups.
• EMC2 facilitates the persistence and lasting
impact of 3DLife, REVERIE and other MC2
projects.

• Educate projects how to pitch their proposals

– How to use the merger of FP7 with CIP to enhance
competitiveness

• We intend to propose during evaluation to
take more into account the impact section:
