 The Gold Master Program is globally accessible for Rockwell
Automation or an Authorized Distributor employees
 There is no charge for Distributors or Rockwell Employees
 Eligible to All employees with valid Extranet Account


Summary of 2013 Changes
 2013 Activations will "ship as new" and it will not be necessary to re-host your activations.
 All Participants of the GoldMaster Program will receive the GoldMaster license/activations at no
charge. This change applies to both Rockwell Automation employees and Authorized Distributors
globally.
 Gold masters have transitioned to electronic only delivery. The REVS USB hard-drive has been
eliminated as a deliverable however, the full 2013 REVS Image will be available for download.
 Role Based Activations quantities have been updated:

Internal & RWD Contracted Training Instructors - 15 installs

Authorized Distributors & Rockwell Automation Sales and Field Service Employees - 2 installs

Rockwell Automation Customer Support Personnel – Activations are determined by the number of engineers in the
associated call center. A program lead will be identified for each group and will be provided with the installs for their group
or call center.
 New Internal uses Temporary Activation option has been created to enable Rockwell Automation
employees to generate short term (up to 90 days) GoldMaster activations for demo’s, testing, special
events, etc.

Gold Master Policy & Restrictions
 License is restricted to the individual requesting the Gold Master

Serial number is licensed, registered and Tracked by individual
 Licenses have a fixed expiration of March 31 and the product grace period activates for
7 days following expiration.
 Annual renewals are begin each year in February.
 Gold Masters include 3rd party products that have contractual obligations and can not be
distributed externally to customers.
 Gold Master agreement STRICTLY PROHIBITS sharing licenses with third party
customers under ANY CIRRCUMSTANCES

Common Q&A
Q: Can I share them with other employees?
A: Installs are licensed specifically each individual and Rockwell Automation or Distributor employees should secure
their own license or request a Temporary Activation.
Q: Can I let a customer use a Gold Master if they placed an order for the product?
A: No, this violates our license agreement. You should use the “End User Temporary Activation” program for issues
related to software trial, shipping issues, or other commercial needs.
Q: Do all products work with Gold Masters?
A: Gold Master is a universal activation that will enable users to activation any Rockwell Automation Software product
that uses FactoryTalk Activation. Users should ensure they are using the latest FactoryTalk Activation Manager. All
know anomalies are published on the support KnowledgeBase.
Q: What are the recommended use cases for GoldMaster vs. using Temp Activations?
A: If someone is responsible for a permanent demo room or equipment for use the entire year then it is better to use
GM Activations. If the need is bench mark testing, training, trade shows, and other special events, then the
recommendation is to use the Temporary Gold Master for up to 90 days.

Common Q&A
Q: How do RA employees "generate" Gold master style temporary activation for testing, training, trade shows,
and other special events so they do not have to move around their personal activations?
A: A new option was added on the current temporary Activation portal for Rockwell Employees
Q: If I support the Demo’s how can I request more GoldMaster installs?
A: Once the original request has been submitted and the activation certificate has been received, an email can be
sent to the to [email protected] requesting the number of additional installs and the business reason
(ex: 2 additional installs needed for the Process Lab in the Milwaukee sales office). At that point the program
manager will add the additional installs to the existing serial number electronically.
Q: Do I need for activations on each Virtual Machine or Virtual application of Win Server Class OS(ex: Win 7
64bit, and Win XP for legacy software)?
A: No, the .lic file should be placed on the Host OS and bridged from the FTActivation Application in the virtual
image. Also note if you move your VM images to other computers then you can also consider hosting your .lic
to a portable devices such as a USB hard drive or USB Security Dongle to ensure portability.

Important Technical Notes
521418 - GoldMaster Activation Usage and Configuration
Starting with the release of 2013 Rockwell Automation GoldMaster Activation and the release of the FactoryTalk Activation
Manager 3.60 CPR9 SR6 you are only required to activate one (1) GoldMaster license; furthermore, this activation does not
need to be borrowed for full functionality.
521410 - Preventing license violation warnings with FactoryTalk GoldMaster Activations and SoftLogix v20
Environment:
SoftLogix v20
GoldMaster Activation
FactoryTalk Activation Manager 3.51 CPR9 SR5.1
Cause
A false-positive license violation warning will be triggered with SoftLogix v20 if a FactoryTalk GoldMaster activation is borrowed.
This license violation warning does not prevent the product from functioning, it merely needs to be acknowledged.
Solution
This will be resolved in SoftLogix v21. (Target is June 2013)
The short term workaround is to install the FactoryTalk Activation Manager 3.60 CPR9 SR6 and still borrow the FactoryTalk
GoldMaster activation. This will prevent the false positive License Violation Warning popup.

Gold Master: Policy Compliance
 All Gold Masters serial numbers are registered to individuals
 There is a zero tolerance policy for unauthorized use. Violations are
tracked by and sent to Regional Channel Managers and Legal.
 Why is the policy so strict:

GoldMasters have been found on Ebay and other sites known that distribute illegal software.

Gold Masters were found running customer plants and discovered because they expired and
shut down operations

RA has been a party to liability and intellectual property law suits due to unauthorized use
