SET / SMPY
The Study of Exceptional Talent
(SET) is a continuation of the Study
of Mathematically Precocious Youth
(SMPY), begun in the 1970s by
JHU Professor Julian Stanley.
Dr. Stanley pioneered the use of
above-grade-level tests to assess
the abilities of students who hit the
ceiling on in-grade tests.
CTY and other Talent Searches are
outgrowths of his work, giving the
SAT to 7th and 8th graders.

New Web Site Project





Grant for a new Web site and
online community for “the world’s
most profoundly gifted scientists
and mathematicians under age 18.”
In development now.
No URL yet, but please check
http://cty.jhu.edu/set/tws.html
for updates
Will strive to complement what
www.artofproblemsolving.com is
doing for math students, for a
broader math/science community
Your help will be very welcome!
