African Heritage Youth Quiz
2015
Practice Quiz
Rules of the Quiz
• Each team: 4 players + 1 back-up/alternate player, for a total of 5
players per team.
• In order to answer a question, players must buzz in and wait to be called
upon by a Host.
• The first team to buzz in will have 5 seconds to answer the question. If a
correct answer is not provided within 5 seconds, the opposing team will
be given up to 10 seconds to answer.
• If a player buzzes in before the Host finishes reading a question, the
Host will stop reading and will call on the buzzing team to answer the
question. If that team is unable to provide a correct answer, then the
Host will re-read the question, in its entirety, for the opposing team.
Rules (continued)
•
If an audience member or anyone else reveals the answer of a
question before the players answer the question, the question is
voided.
•
In the case of a disputed answer, the judge will determine the correct
answer. The judge’s decision will be final.
•
If no team is able to correctly answer the question, audience members
will be given an opportunity to answer the question.
During the Quiz…
•
•
•
•
•
You may not receive any further coaching from teachers, school staff
or audience members.
Each team will have five players, however only four can participate at
a time. A substitution can be made twice per game. Substitution
requests must be made to the host by a coach/teacher.
Lean forward and clearly speak your answer into the microphone so
that your answer can be heard by everyone in the room.
Do not hover your hands over the buzzer.
If you don't hear a question or understand it, ask the Host to repeat it.
Exception: if your team buzzes in before the Host finishes reading a
question, you may not ask the Host to repeat it.
Keep in Mind
•
•
Only one person from your team (the person who buzzes in) may
answer the question. You may consult with your teammates, if
necessary, but remember:
– You only have seconds to answer.
– You should back away from the microphones so the other team
won’t hear you.
Remember that each new question is a fresh start for you and for your
team. If your team is down by a large number of points, it’s possible to
make up the difference in a few minutes. You can do it!
