Shakopee Wrestling Philosophy
The Shakopee Wrestling program focuses on
the positive development of the
student/wrestler physically, mentally and
socially. In being part of a team committed to
achieving group goals, the student/wrestler will
increase cooperative and sportsmanlike social
skills. While focusing on team goals, as well as
personal goals, discipline and dedication to
wrestling, the student/wrestler will develop traits
that will help him/her be successful in life.

signature and returned to the wrestling coach the

Wrestle-off Procedure
Wrestle-offs are wrestling matches
during practice that may determine who
will represent SHS at a competition at
each weight class.
Wrestle Offs
Any wrestler on the high school
team may wrestle-off for a position
on the Varsity or Jr. Varsity team.
Wrestle off weigh-ins
Prior to practice start time
Any wrestler who wishes to wrestle-off
for a position on the Varsity or Jr.
Varsity Squad must weigh within two
pounds of the weight class being
wrestled-off for.
No exceptions! You must make weight.
Wrestle-off dates
Wrestle-off schedule will be determined by
the competition schedule of the team.
Most wrestle-offs will occur once a week-
the day before our first competition of that
week.
Established Wrestlers
Wrestlers may become “established” if
they have an exceptional record
against good competition and wrestle
offs have been very lopsided in their
favor. These wrestlers may be exempt
from wrestle offs to save practice time
and avoid injury to other wrestlers.
Beating out a varsity wrestler
By February we usually have a pretty
established varsity team.
Positions on the Section Individual
Team will be determined by a three
match wrestle-off series. The challenger
must win the first wrestle off to continue
on.
Changing the Lineup
The coach reserves the right to change
the line-up of any team at any time.
*The good of the team will always come
before the good an any individual
