select libraries
• IT based services are at the minimum level
• Photocopying service through commercial
vendors

based
ISSUES
• DULS is almost 20 years behind compared to the
developments in the academic libraries;
• Central Library’s building (1958) (depleted condition);
• Ratan Tata Library (1949) building’s condition;
• Space crunch;
• Financial health (only 3 % of the University Budget);
• Library rules (drastic change to bring centralized
membership system);
• Library Collection (print + non-print);
• ICT based library services
• Many More………………
Challenge
• The Delhi University Library System has plans to
build the Library of Tomorrow – a model University
Research Library of the 21st Century that will not
only fill up the gap in terms of collection
development and physical ambiance but make
information readily available to large segment of
users’ community.
• DULS has been conceived of as a Hybrid Library
System (i.e. a manageable combination of physical
and virtual collections and its associated
information services) wherein on the one hand, the
traditional system of library holdings are
maintained and strengthened keeping in view the
focus and mandate of the University as a whole and
on the other hand, ICT based services are
implemented.
The Mission
•
•
•
•
To deliver quality, user-oriented services
responsive to the changing information needs of
our diverse community;
To enrich the university's teaching, learning and
research activities through the strategic
management of scholarly information;
To promote university education as preparedness
for lifelong learning by developing in students
independent learning and information literacy
skills;
To provide the staff with the infrastructure &
training that will support them in their work and
foster pride in their achievements as members of
a successful innovative team.
