Year 7 Integrated Learning – Coastal Environments
Unit Aim:
In this unit students examine the features of a particular type of global
environment – Coastal. They consider the spatial distribution of coasts, the major
geographical processes that operate and the way humans interact with the
environment. They look at the coastal environment from the perspective of a
coastal community. Students present their work in a variety of forms: Postcard;
Newsletter and an interactive Discussion Board.

Year 8 Integrated Learning – Connectedness
Unit Aim: Students have the opportunity to examine the meaning of
connectedness, in general and in the context of communities through various
activities and begin to develop an awareness of how important connectedness is
to the success of a community and to the identity of an individual.

Conversations
The Loreto Normanhurst Student Growth Model focuses on the Holistic
Education of a student.
A critical element to this model are Conversations. Each student meets with their
advisor 10 times over the course of the year to discuss their growth. The
elements of growth are discussed under the FACE Curriculum.
Each student responds to questions and blogs these on the school portal to
document their Holistic Growth and provide for real reflection.

Year 8 Integrated Learning – United Nations
Unit Aim
Each nation is entitled to ONE post in Today's Meet. It
must be relevant to their stance on the issue and support
the debate.
You must use formal language and a positive tone. Try to
incorporate UN terminology.
All posts must be justified.
"We agree with North Korea on this matter because we
are allies."
The Secretary-General and Advisors reserve the right to
close Today's Meet at any time.
Sanctions will apply to nations who cannot adhere to the
above rules.
The best post will be rewarded with 2 merits each.

Photography – appropriate online images
Students are asked to consider how the images that they take,
post and share can impact on a person’s life.
They focus on a celebrity currently in the media who is being
scrutinised. Students are shown a number of images and ask to
comment on what each image is saying about that person.
They then must develop a PPT for Middle School students that
highlights rules for appropriate published photography

Photography – Instragram your excursion
In Year 7 and 8 Students attend Geography Field excursion to Bobbin
Head and the Blue Mountains. As part of the activities for the day,
students are now being encouraged to bring phones/cameras etc to
take an image that captures the essence of that environment.
Students are then asked to submit the photos and they vote to
determine which image is the most successful in the task. Students
are practising being critical in determining the image they select. It’s
really making them think.

Year 7 Integrated Learning – Who are You
Unit Aim: Students investigate and explore values. In particular that
begin to identify different types of values and how these influence a
person’s behaviour and attitudes.

Unit Aim: Students work through an orientation program for the first
weeks of High School in Year 7. As part of the Safe Laptop Use lessons
students are asked to review a ‘fakeBook’ page and identify:
• What judgements we make when we see a page.
• What private information we can find on her page.
• What her images tell us?
Students then identify what there digital foot print is on a paper
footprint and discuss this with their parents and advisors

As a visual bookmarking site, self-described as a ‘virtual pinboard’,
Pinterest allows users to ‘pin’, or transfer digital images to an interest
‘board’, or webpage that they make themselves and give a title to.
The images are then collected together on this board and made
available for others to see. Users may ‘repin’ images from other
people’s boards, pin images they have found on other websites or use
images of their own (their own photographs or infographics, for
example). A wealth of high-quality and diverse images are available to
use for Pinterest purposes.
