Lifesaving Skills Course for Rookie Instructors
Purpose of the Rookie Instructor Course
Aim:
To provide aquatics trainers the knowledge, skills and
ability to train and assess the RLSS UK Rookie Lifeguard
programme
Course Outcomes:
By the end of this course candidates will have gained:
Basic knowledge of the Society, it’s structure, Rookie
Lifeguard and other award programmes
An understanding of basic Lifesaving and Life
Support skills to deliver the Rookie Lifeguard
programme
RLSS Education programme

National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC)

Aim of the Rookie programme:
To prepare Rookies to take better care of
themselves, their family and friends and to give
them the information they need to promote water
safety in their day to day activities
Target age 8-12 years
Three stages (Bronze, Silver, Gold) which are
each split into three levels (e.g. Bronze level 1,
Bronze Level 2 and Bronze Level 3)
