The School & Its Mission:
The Bandera United Methodist Church’s Pre-Kindergarten
Program begins on Tuesday, August 27, 2012 and ends on June 6, 2013. The mission of this program
is to provide a Christian environment that fosters spiritual, emotional, intellectual and physical
development while preparing children for kindergarten and beyond.
Curriculum:
A developmentally appropriate Christian curriculum will be used. We will be working with
kindergarten teachers to ensure that we incorporate in the curriculum the skills children need to have
when entering kindergarten.

Teacher Qualifications:
We have two teachers and an aide that have experience in education for children in a Christian
setting.
We believe that parents and teachers are a team in helping each child develop to his/her
potential; therefore, we look forward to working closely with each family. We value parents'
input and participation in school activities.
Registration:
This early Christian education learning center is for children who are 3 or 4 years old on/or before
September 1, 2011. Classes will be filled in the order that registration forms are received.
Parents or guardians must complete a registration form accompanied by a non-refundable $50.00
registration/supply fee.
Children will be accepted without consideration of race, color, national origin, or creed subject
only to the child's readiness and the limits set forth by student-teacher ratios in each group. A
waiting list will begin after maximum limits have been reached.
Classes : Both 3 yr and 4 yr old classes will be held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 8:30 until 2:30.
Fees: Tuition is $1,500 a year. Tuition payments maybe made in ten monthly installments of $150.00.
The first payment is due at or before orientation. The rate is not reduced for school holidays or
absences. Tuition will be due on the first class day of the month. A late fee of $25.00 will be assessed to
all accounts paid after the second class day of each month. We encourage your payment by check;
however, there will be a $35.00 service charge on all returned checks and person responsible will be
required to pay with cash or money order thereafter.
Scholarships: Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of need and scholarship monies available.
Scholarship applications can be obtained from the church office. If the Scholarship is awarded, the grant
may be up to 50% of the tuition. All scholarship recipients cannot miss more than 4 (four) school days
each semester. Scholarship can be withdrawn with more than 4 days absence.
Lunch: Each child will need to bring his or her lunch daily. Milk will be provided at lunch each day
for the children. Please label lunch box.
Rest Time: Children will have a rest time, and children will need to bring a rest mat of your preference to
leave at school. We encourage you to send a favorite blanket or stuffed toy for your child to use during
rest time.
Snack: After rest time Kids’ Kingdom will provide a snack.
Medical Information: Information will be kept on each child enrolled in the school. Food allergies and
other pertinent medical information should be noted on the forms. Two emergency phone numbers must be
listed. The child’s physician must sign a written statement stating the child is physically able to participate in
school activities. The immunization information on each child must be current and attached to the medical
form as well as results from a vision and hearing screening as mandated by Texas State Law. The school
must have all appropriate paperwork on file from the physician. Students must have received all required
immunizations for his/her age level. Please keep medical records current by giving us updates of any shots
or boosters.
ALL PARENTS MUST PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING:
• Completed Emergency forms
• Physicians Statement of Good Health
• Current Immunization Records
• Vision & Hearing Screening for 4 year olds
• Special Needs Form, if necessary
All of the required medical information must be in our office on or before the first day of school.
Special Health Needs: If a child has asthma, or a history of allergic reactions, the child’s physician should
complete a Special Health Needs Form. This form will state the required medication or emergency care and
actions that may be necessary at school. Only medication listed by the physician for these conditions will be
administered at school. These medications must be in the original labeled prescription container with the
child’s name, directions to administer the medication, the date and the name of the physician prescribing the
medication. The BUMC Pre-K staff may give medication for asthma and reaction type allergies to children
who have filed a complete Special Health Need form. No other medication, such as antibiotics, cough
syrup, etc. will be administered.
Illnesses: For the protection of all children in our program, parents will not be allowed to leave a child who is
not current on immunizations or who appears ill. In cases where the child has seen a physician for a
contagious disease, a statement from the doctor will be required before the student will be allowed to return to
school. This if for your child’s protection. According to the Report of the Committee on Control of Infectious
Diseases of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a child must not be brought to school when any of the
following exist:
Fever (must be free of fever for 24 hours)
Vomiting or diarrhea (must be symptom free for 24 hours)
Symptoms of scarlet fever, German measles, mumps, chicken pox and cough.
Common cold( thick or colored runny nose) from onset through one week
Sore throat
Croup
Any unexplained rash
Skin infection, boils, ringworm, impetigo
Pink eye or other eye infection (child must have been on medication for at least 48 hours before returning)
No medication will be given to your child by our staff except for those specified in the Special Health
Needs section.
If your child becomes ill at school, parents will be notified and asked to come pick up the child. We must have
the name of someone who is available to come pick up the sick child on the child’s record. First aid will be
administered when necessary, including: cleaning and bandaging of wounds, ice for bumps and minor booboos, hugs for consoling, etc. EMS personnel will be called for more serious emergencies.
Discipline: Discipline will be consistent and based on an understanding of the individual needs and development
of each child. Discipline is not a form of punishment, but a means of teaching self-control with a Christian
behavior. Children are praised for appropriate behaviors. When necessary they are distracted, redirected or
separated from the group for unacceptable behaviors. If the teachers’ efforts are unsuccessful, a conference with
the parent(s) of the child may be requested.
Our policy is to provide a positive, safe, and educational school experience for all children in our program. If a
student behaves inappropriately within the sole discretion of the BUMC Preschool Board of Directors, such
directors shall have the authority to call the parents of the child for immediate removal. The parents are
obligated to immediately come to the school and pick up their child. The child may return to school no
earlier than the beginning of the next school day, following a conference with the parents.
On the third occasion that the parents are called to remove the child, the child will be dismissed from the school.
The child may return to school upon the discretion of the Kids’ Kingdom teachers subject to the Kids’ Kingdom
Board approval.
Clothing: Your child need to be dressed appropriately in washable (we often get messy at school) clothing
he/she can manage easily. Please keep a change of clothes in his/her bag. Tennis shoes work best for we will
be doing lots of climbing & running on the playground and children will be participating in activities that develop
motor-skills. We are planning to go outside everyday, weather permitting. Send appropriate jacket or outdoor
clothing according to the weather.
Arrival / Pick-Up: The Pre-K Staff will be responsible for the students from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. All children
will need to be dropped off between 8:30 and 8:45 and picked up between 2:30 and 2:45. Children are released
only to their parents or other persons approved by their parents. This information is included in every child’s
records. The child’s teacher should be notified in a signed and dated note if someone else is to pick them up. Our
policy is to ask for a driver’s license or picture identification if the adult is not recognized by the child’s
teacher.
Never leave your child unless they are with a staff member.
YOU CAN HELP US:
• Please notify the Lead Teacher of any changes in address, phone numbers (work and mobile #’s too) or if a
pick-up person changes.
• Please notify the Lead Teacher of any changes in medical records, such as immunizations, allergies, change
of doctor, or hospital used for emergencies. We must keep these records current.
• Write your child’s name on everything that comes to school that you want to come home.
• Please do not send anything of value to school; for we cannot be responsible for it.
• We ask that children not bring toys to school. Special opportunities to bring things from home will occur
throughout the year.
• Conferences and/or observations of your child’s classroom can be arranged and are encouraged.
