Types of Rotations
 Core Rotations*
 Select Elective Rotations

Preceptor Requirements for Payment
 3 – 4 students /year desirable

Initiated at distant locations to provide access to
core rotation sites
 Established at sites where:

 No alternative affordable housing available
 Location - high # of core rotation sites for multiple programs
 College must ensure one or more students occupy housing
for minimum of 9 months/year
Students pay small fee ($110/four weeks) to
cover cost of utilities and cleaning service
 College oversees process; workload ~ 20
hours/week
 Currently 5 sites; 90 students/year

Tuition increase select program
University addition of $ to operational budget
Reallocation of $ within operational budget


Ability to place students in required rotation
Retention of preceptor



Increased cost to student
Increased competition for sites (who pays most)
Increased workload for program
 Tracking and processing payment

©
Escalation of payments
Payment of preceptors/sites will continue
Emphasize other preceptor benefits
Emphasize programmatic support of clinical sites
Consider financial arrangement with large
hospital system to provide rotations for students




 Reduces # affiliation agreements
 Facilitates tracking
? Simulation to supplement clinical experience;
accreditation issue
