Mission
The Wound, Ostomy & Continence Nurses
Society (WOCN) is a professional nursing
society, which supports its members by
promoting educational, clinical, & research
opportunities to advance the practice &
guide the delivery of expert health care to
individuals with wound, ostomy &
continence concerns.

The 2013-2016 Strategic Plan was
developed as a resource to outline the
objectives & goals of the WOCN Society.
The Society’s Board and committee chairs
formulated a three year plan to
demonstrate the value of the WOC nurse.
This strategic plan is property of the WOCN
Society & is reviewed & updated annually
by the WOCN Board of Directors.

Vision & Goal
Vision: The WOCN Society will be the
premier provider of WOC nursing
education.
Goal: The WOCN Society will be the
premier provider of education for ALL
levels of nurses providing WOC services.

Objectives
 Increase awareness of the value of
WOCN endorsed educational programs
 Devise a variety of strategies to provide
WOC nursing related education
 Increase educational outreach/offerings
for advanced practice nurses
Practice
Vision & Goal
Vision: The WOCN Society's standards of
practice are recognized as the gold
standard for the management of patient's
with WOC conditions.
Goal: Every patient with a WOC condition
will have access to a special nurse
educated by a WOCN-accredited
Educational Program (WOCNEP).

 Provide WOC nurses with evidence
based practice tools for the management
of patients with WOC conditions
 Increase recruitment/empower/inspire
nurses to pursue WOCN
accredited/endorsed educational
programs
 Increase awareness of the value of WOC

Vision: Every provider of WOC specialty
nursing is a member of the WOCN
Society.
Goal: The WOCN Society will be the
leading nursing organization to empower,
educate & advance WOC nursing
practice.

 Increase membership annually
 Increase recruitment by 5% annually
 Diversify prospective member base

Vision & Goal
Vision: The WOCN Society & its Center for
Clinical Investigation (CCI) will be the vehicle
through which collaborative, state-of-the-art
clinical (WOC) research is conducted to
improve patient outcomes & drive policy
decisions.
Goal: Cost effective practice & improved patient
outcomes will be achieved by WOCN Society’s
leadership/support of WOC nursing research.

the WOCN Society as the premier society

recognize the value of WOC nurses &
