GENERAL SALIENT FEATURES Books 1 to 8

A warm-up or a pre-reading task at the beginning of each lesson introduces the theme of the lesson and gently leads the reader’s mind into the main lesson.

Texts are a balanced mix of classic and contemporary pieces. In Books 6 to 8, the selections from a wide range of genres are theme-based.

Lively poems by modern as well as classical poets inculcate in the learner a love for poetry.

New and difficult words and phrases in the texts are highlighted in an easy-to-read, unobtrusive and visually appealing manner and their meanings given at the bottom of each page.

Exhaustive exercises are given to develop the skills of comprehension, grammar and writing.

The Activity ( Workbooks ) have theme-related Unseen Comprehension passages that are followed by exhaustive exercises. Every unit in Activity Books 1 to 8 contains sections on vocabulary, grammar, writing and reference skills( in workbooks 6 8). Grammar is presented in a graded and orderly manner. The Writing exercises in every unit will expose the students to a variety of writing formats.

The Literature Readers motivate students to read for pleasure. They help to develop the students’ analytical, inferential and deductive skills. The study of literary pieces provides opportunities to the students to reflect on the events and characters.

Web-support for teachers is available on the ELT Virtual Resource Centre (

www.ratnasagar.co.in

) in the form of lesson-linked downloadable exercises and activities on grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing tasks and listening and speaking skills.
