Structure of EU Funding Schemes

Call for Proposals vs. Open Scheme
◦ Most EU funding is available via Call for Proposals (CfP), only a small number are open schemes ◦ CfP are published online and can be accessed through the Research Participant Portal: http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/ ◦ CfP/ Project life-cycle 1. Publication 2. Submit proposal within deadline (usually ~6 months) 3. Evaluation 4. Selection 5. Negotiation 6. Implementation 7. Review

Principles of access to EU funding
– All areas of FP7 open to the participation of ASEAN researchers and/or research organisations – Most ASEAN countries are 'International Cooperation Partner Country' (ICPC) except Singapore and Brunei ( ‘industrialised countries’, receive funding only in exceptional cases)
International dimension: General & targeted Opening of Calls
– 1. General Opening: Activities open to international cooperation – 2. Targeted Opening (A) : Activities with a focus on international cooperation, including but not restricted to ASEAN countries – 3. Targeted Opening (B) : Activities with a focus on international cooperation specifically targeting ASEAN countries
